Benign osteoblastoma is an uncommon bone tumor accounting for approximately 1% of all bone tumors. There are only 35 cases of skull osteoblastoma reported in the literature. We describe the case of a 23 year old male with a giant osteoblastoma of temporal bone submitted to a total removal of the tumor after an effective embolization of all external carotid branches. The authors discuss diagnost...
Osteoblastomas are bone forming lesions arising mainly from posterior elements of the vertebra. They are commonly encountered in the cervical and lumbar regions. We present a case of a thoracic osteoblastoma which is extra osseous and is not communicating with any part of the vertebra present intraforaminally. This is a rare presentation of an osteoblastoma. Imaging studies do not accurately di...

Among the rare bone tumors, the osteoblastoma is a fascinating tumor. The rarity, the predisposition to occur in any bone and the diagnostic dilemma makes this infrequent tumor interesting. It is sporadically reported in the literature and what is rarer is its occurrence in the pelvis. The unusual location and inconclusive radiographic findings with diffused diagnostic evidences delays the mana...
BACKGROUND The most important symptom in patients with osteoid osteoma and osteoblastoma is a resistant localized neck pain and stiffness in the spine. OBJECTIVE To evaluate and analyze 6 cases of osteoid osteoma and osteoblastoma of the cervical spine that were surgically treated over a 7-year period and to emphasize the unusual persistent neck pain associated with osteoid osteoma and osteob...

We describe a 59-year-old woman with osteoblastoma in the right fifth posterior segment of the rib, whose presenting symptoms were right back pain for two years and awakened at night. Chest computer tomography (CT) and thoracic spine magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings included an expansile lesi...
BACKGROUND The malignant osteoblastoma has poor prognosis, thus the search for novel and more efficient chemo-agents against this disease is urgent. Salinomycin induces broad anti-cancer effects both in vivo and in vitro, however, its role in osteoblastoma is still not clear. KEY FINDINGS Salinomycin induced both apoptosis and autophagy in cultured U2OS and MG-63 osteoblastoma cells. Inhibiti...
We report a unique case of juxtacortical osteoblastoma of the humeral shaft, which stimulated the appearance of an extraosseous extension of Gaucher-cell deposits. The tumour was treated successfully by curettage and bone grafting. We can find no previous report of this association between osteoblastoma and Gaucher's disease.
