The structure of a new diterpene, C30H46O11, with antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginose and Escherichia coli, isolated from the fresh whole plants of Ajuga lupulina (Labiatae) was established to be 2 beta-hydroxy-2-methylbutanoyl-3 alpha-lupulin (3-deoxy-14,15-dihydro-2-hydroxy-15-methoxycaryoptinol 2-methylbutanoate), by means of X-ray crystallographic analysis. The present stu...

We investigated the in vivo activity of crude water extracts of Ajuga remota Benth (Labiatae) against Plasmodium berghei in mice using plants harvested from two areas in Kenya where the plant is commonly used to treat malaria. The extract was tested using a 4-day test at a dose of 30 mg/kg/day (equivalent to 0.2 ml solution per mouse). Wet leaf extract was the most effective with 90.4% suppress...

The crop species Brassica rapa L. has significant economic importance around the world. However, the global distribution and complex evolutionary history of the species has made investigating its genetic population structure difficult. Crop domestication and improvement has resulted in extreme phenotypic diversity and subspecies that are used for oilseed, food for human consumption, and fodder ...

Stabilities of anthocyanins from Concord grapes, red cabbage, tradescantia and ajuga were studied. RP-HPLC analysis was used to characterize individual anthocyanins and spectrophotometric analysis for all pigments. Anthocyanins from tradescantia were much more stable than the other extracts. Such increased stability was attributed to its intrinsic nature.
