Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACS) are employed both as disinfectants for manual processing lines and surfaces in the food industry, and in human medicine area. QACS also cause cell death by protein denaturation . One of the QAC is cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) that appears to rapture the cell membrane. The primary site of action of CTAB has been suggested to be the lipid components...

Hyoscine-N-butyl bromide is a widely used antispasmodic belonging to the belladonna alkaloid class of semisynthetic quaternary ammonium compounds. These compounds exert a spasmolytic action on the smooth muscles of the bile-gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary tract, salivary glands (xerostomia), and also on the visual apparatus - in particular, the irido-ciliary complex. As a consequence, the...

The effects of the cationic surfactant (cationic cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, CTAB) on the improvement of the sludge dewaterability using the cationic flocculant (cationic polyacrylamide, CPAM) were analyzed. Residual turbidity of supernatant, dry solid (DS) content, extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), specific resistance to filtration (SRF), zeta potential, floc size, and settling r...

In the title compound, C(14)H(30)N(2) (2+)·2Br(-)·2CH(3)OH, two terminal C atoms of the butane chain are connected to two N atoms of the 1-methyl-pyrollidines, forming a linear diquaternary ammonium cation. The cation lies across a centre of inversion located between the two central C atoms of the butane chain. The asymmetric unit therefore comprises one half-cation, a bromide anion and a metha...

The title compound, C(20)H(26)NO(2) (+)·Br(-), is an N-chiral quaternary ammonium salt synthesized from (2S*)-N-benzyl-N-methyl-tyrosine methyl ester. The dihedral angle between the phenyl ring and the benzene ring is 11.61 (19)°. In the crystal structure, the allyl group is disordered over two positions with site occupancy factors of ca 0.8 and 0.2. The bromide anion links to the quaternary am...

The interaction between λ--DNA and cationic surfactants with varying alkyl chain lengths was investigated. By dynamic light scattering method, the trimethyl-ammonium bromides-DNA complex formation was shown to be dependent on the length of the surfactant's alkyl chain. For surfactants with sufficient long alkyl chain (CTAB, TTAB, DTAB), the compacted particles exist with a size of ~60-110 nm at...

The redetermined, low temperature (150 K), structure of tetra-n-butyl-ammonium bromide, (C(4)H(9))(4)N(+)·Br(-), has been found to be merohedrally twinned via twin law -1 0 0, 0 - 1 0, 1 0 1. The structure was previously determined, with low precision, no inclusion of H atoms and only the bromide ion refined with anisotropic displacement parameters, by Wang et al. (1995 ▶). Mol. Cryst. Liq. Cry...

A novel, efficient, convenient and environmentally friendly approach for the synthesis of nitriles and imines from primary amines has been developed. Using commercially available red copper as the catalyst, ammonium bromide as the co-catalyst and molecular oxygen as the sole oxidant, nitriles and imines can be afforded in high yields through benzylic oxidation.
