Introduction: Bacterial translocation is defined as the passage of bacteria from intestinal tract to the extraintestinal organs such as the peritoneum and blood circulation. The aim of this study is to examine bacterial translocation (regarding type of bacteria and effect of time of obstruction on bacterial translocation) from intestinal lumen to the peritoneum and viscera in acute, simple mec...
The cases of 4 children who developed postthoracotomy sternal wound infection caused by anaerobic bacteria are presented. The predominate anaerobes were Peptostreptococcus species and pigmented Prevotella species. Polymicrobial infection was present in all cases, and aerobic bacteria also were recovered in 2 instances. All patients responded to surgical debridement and antimicrobials effective ...
Cytophaga fermentans strain JCM 21142(T) is a marine-dwelling facultative anaerobe. The draft genome sequence of this strain revealed its diverse chemoorganotrophic potential, which makes it capable of metabolizing various polysaccharide substrates. The genome data will facilitate further studies on its taxonomic reclassification, its metabolism, and the mechanisms pertaining to bacterial gliding.
Butyl rubber stoppers as compared with neoprene or black rubber stoppers significantly increased the shelf life of prereduced, anaerobically sterilized media for growth of obligately anaerobic bacteria.
The Wise Anaerobic Work Station permitted the growth of type cultures of a range of fastidious obligate anaerobes. In the isolation of anaerobic bacteria from clinical specimens the performance equalled that of a standard anaerobic jar incubated for 48 hours, and gave results superior to those obtained when incubation of jar cultures was interrupted at 24 hours. The Wise Anaerobic Work Station ...
conclusions: in the present study, we have figured out that a number of the important anaerobic infections treatment antibiotics have lost partly or totally their effectiveness on b. fragilis. background: bacteroides fragilis are among the most important anaerobic bacteria behind most of the anaerobic infections. they have acquired resistance to essential treatment antibiotics of anaerobic infe...
Aspirates of pus from infected pilonidal sinuses in 75 patients showed bacterial growth. Anaerobic bacteria only were recovered in 58 (77%) specimens, aerobic bacteria only in three (4%), and mixed aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in 14 (19%). Two hundred and nine isolates were recovered: 147 anaerobes (2.0 isolates a specimen) and 62 aerobes (0.8 a specimen). The predominant anaerobes were Bacte...
Strictly anaerobic bacteria such as methanogenic, sulfate-reducing, and homoacetogenic bacteria could be enriched from all five oxic soils tested. The number of cells was lower than that in typical anoxic habitats. Spores did not always dominate the population of sulfate-reducing bacteria. In all soils, the methanogenic population displayed a long lag phase after anoxic conditions were imposed ...
Minimal inhibitory concentrations of various antimicrobial agents for human oral anaerobic bacteria.
The minimal inhibitory concentrations of a series of antimicrobial agents for human oral organisms were determined under anaerobic growth conditions by an agar dilution assay. With the exception of black-pigmented Bacteroides spp., minimal inhibitory concentrations for oral isolates were similar to those for non-oral isolates of organisms of the same or closely related species.
