The adsorption of polyester onto organically modified silicas (ormosils) and (commercial) fumed silica has been compared utilising ToF-SIMS. The thermodynamics of each system was examined by constructing adsorption isotherm plots which indicated that the adsorption of polyester onto one of the modified silicas used may be a two stage process. Adsorption onto the fumed silica is in accord with t...

Mechanical behaviour of unsaturated polyester resin used for the composite materials has been studied to determine various important parameters, such as tensile and compressive, single edge-notch tensile fracture toughness, flexural properties and fracture energy. Fracture toughness, KIC, and fracture energy, GIC, obtained for the polyester resin lie between the typical values for epoxy resins ...

The influence of different experimental conditions on the thermal comfort behavior of polyester-viscose and polyester-cotton ring and MJS yarn fabrics has been studied. The results show that the yarn structure and the fibre cross-sectional shape have a large influence on improving the thermal comfort of woven fabrics. The fabrics made from MJS yarns perform better than those of the ring yarn fa...

A new process for the manufacture of microfluidic devices based on deposition of laser-printing toner on glass substrates is described. It is an alternative method to the toner on polyester film (toner-polyester) one, previously introduced. Commercial laser printers cannot print directly on glass, thus the toner must first be printed on a special paper and then transferred by heating under pres...

introduction: plastination is a unique technique for preservation of biological specimens used for teaching purposes. the protocol of flexible sheet plastination includes fixation, slicing, dehydration, force impregnation, casting, and curing (hajian, rabiei, fatollahpour & esfandiary, 2008). the procedure is done by using p87 flexible unsaturated polyester resin and provides heavy, gross, frag...

PURPOSE Little data exist comparing the strength of traditional methods of fixation in a flexor digitorum profundus tendon with the use of a suture anchor. In vitro cyclic testing simulating a passive mobilization protocol was used to compare the repair of a flexor digitorum profundus tendon using a single micro-Mitek anchor (Mitek, Westwood, MA) or a modified Bunnell 2-strand pullout technique...

Carbon-fibre and polyester-fibre implants of comparable dimensions were used to replace the calcaneal tendon in 30 sheep. The neotendon produced in proximity to the polyester fibres was denser, more collagenous and more closely adherent than that in the carbon-based neotendon. Fragmentation of the carbon caused continuing cellular reaction which was associated with a poor collagen response.

We have investigated the usefulness of six in vitro biocompatibility tests in predicting the healing performance of polyester vascular prostheses as observed in previous canine in vivo trials. Vascular grafts were evaluated by using (i) a direct contact (DC) assay, (ii) an extract dilution (ED) assay on murine fibroblast cells, (iii) a DC assay on endothelial cells, (iv) a complement activation...
