Stable porphyrin based porous polymer networks, PPN-23 and PPN-24, have been synthesized through a facile one-pot approach by the aromatic substitution reactions of pyrrole and aldehydes. PPN-24(Fe) shows high catalytic efficiency as a biomimetic catalyst in the oxidation reaction of 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) in the presence of H2O2.

Hydrophobic mesoporous polymer nanofibre networks were converted to hydrophilic ones by a mild sulfonation reaction. The resultant mesoporous polystyrene with a large free surface area effectively captured water-soluble dye molecules and allowed aromatic compounds to rapidly permeate into the internal binding sites.

We have found that the use of fluoroalcohol media greatly enhanced the efficiency and scope of the direct dehydrative condensation of arenes and hypervalent iodine(III) compounds; the present clean method has a broad range of applicability as well as unique selectivity in the aromatic substrates, and is highly efficient even in polymer functionalization.

Testing this polymer semiconductor as the active layer in organic thin-film transistors results in hole mobilities as high as 0.15 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) in air.
