Unlike other plants, bamboo (Bambusoideae) flowering is an elusive physiological phenomena, because it is unpredictable, long-periodic, gregarious, and uncontrollable; also, bamboo plants usually die after flowering. The flowering mechanism in Arabidopsis thaliana, a eudicot model species, is well established, but it remains unknown in bamboo species. We found 4470 and 3878 expressed sequence t...

Interest in the antioxidant activity of bamboo leaves is growing. To discover new sources of natural antioxidants, a TLC bioautography method combined with a new image processing method was developed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of leaf extracts from 15 different species of bamboo. The results showed that the methanolic extract of Bambusa. textilis McClure possessed the highest antioxid...

BACKGROUND Allelopathy (negative, plant-plant chemical interactions) has been largely studied as an autecological process, often assuming simplistic associations between pairs of isolated species. The growth inhibition of a species in filter paper bioassay enriched with a single chemical is commonly interpreted as evidence of an allelopathic interaction, but for some of these putative examples ...

Callistocypris thailandensis sp. nov. is here described from terrestrial habitat in Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand. The new species differs from the other three Callistocypris species in the shape of carapace, the presence of strong longitudinal ridges on the ventral part of the valves and the chaetotaxy of several limbs. Zoogeography and ecology of the genus are b...

Two samples of hydrated silica from the bamboo plant ( t̀abasheer’ and `bambusa’ ) were examined by X-ray ̄ uorescence and H, Al and Si solidstate NMR, X-ray di€ raction and thermogravimetric analysis. Silicon is the major elemental component of both samples, with much smaller amounts of aluminium (about 1 2́wt%), iron (0 3́± 0 4́wt%), calcium and magnesium, and traces of phosphorus . The maximum t...

Known for its versatility and fast growth, bamboo is a perennial plant. Bamboo noted expanding rapidly; some types may do so by several feet in single day. A prototype hydraulic piston briquette machine was used to process the samples, which were obtained from Forest College Research Institute Mettupalayam, India. The briquettes made Bambusa bambos had various ratios of lantana camara sawdust. ...
