It is demonstrated that using an appropriately chosen renormalization condition one can respect power counting within the relativistic baryon chiral perturbation theory without appealing to the technique of the heavy baryon approach. Explicit calculations are performed for diagrams including two-loops. It is argued that the introduction of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory was useful ...

Abstract We examine the generation of baryon asymmetry at the weak scale from a primordial lepton asymmetry. If the electroweak phase transition is first order, partial reflection of tau leptons off the bubble walls and the resulting hypercharge transport into the symmetric phase, gives rise to a baryon number consistent with observation. We examine the generation of baryon asymmetry at the weak...

From recent study of properties of the lowest spin-parity 1/2− baryons, N∗(1535) and ∆∗(1620), new pictures for the internal structure of the lowest 1/2− baryon octet and decuplet are proposed. While the lowest 1/2− baryon octet may have large diquark-diquark-antiquark component, the lowest 1/2− baryon decuplet is proposed to have large vector-meson-baryon components. Evidence for the “missing”...

In supersymmetric scenarios with broken R-parity, baryon number violating sparticle decays become possible. In order to search for such decays, a good understanding of expected event properties is essential. We here develop a complete framework that allows detailed studies. Special attention is given to the hadronization phase, wherein the baryon number violating vertex is associated with the a...

We study the rapidity losses in central heavy-ion collisions from AGS to RHIC energies with the mean rapidity determined from the projectile net-baryon distribution after collisions. The projectile net-baryon distribution in the full rapidity range was obtained by removing the target contribution phenomenologically at forward rapidity region from the experimental net-baryon measurements and tak...

The baryon junction exchange mechanism recently proposed to explain valence baryon number transport in nuclear collisions is extended to study midrapidity anti-hyperon production. Baryon junction-antijunction (JJ̄) loops are shown to enhance Λ̄, Ξ̄, Ω̄ as well as lead to long range rapidity correlations. Results are compared to recent WA97 PbPb → Y Ȳ X data. 25.75.-q,24.10.Lx Typeset using REVTEX

I present a gentle introduction to baryogenesis, the dynamical production of a baryon asymmetry during the early universe. I review the evidence for a cosmic baryon asymmetry and describe some of the elementary ingredients necessary for models of baryon number production.
