In order to determine the fungi causing kernel rot on chestnut, 150 chestnut kernels were collected from forests of Düzce province. Ninety-eight showed necrosis at various sizes, while rest 52 healthy in appearance. Twelve recovered necrotic kernels, four kernels. The most frequently isolated fungus was Gnomoniopsis smithogilvyi, obtained 24 It also 5 and produced when inoculated intact Besides...

Early human societies and their interactions with the natural world have been extensively explored in palaeoenvironmental studies across Central and Western Europe. Yet, despite an extensive body of scholarship, there is little consideration of the environmental impacts of proto-historic urbanisation. Typically palaeoenvironmental studies of Bronze and Iron Age societies discuss human impact in...
Neotropical bats of the genus Carollia are widely studied due to their abundance, distribution and relevance for ecosystems. However, the ecomorphological boundaries of these species are poorly differentiated, and consequently correspondence between their geographic distribution, ecological plasticity and morphological variation remains unclear. In this study, patterns of cranial and mandibular...
We propose a conceptual framework for restoration of threatened plant species that encourages integration of technological, ecological, and social spheres. A sphere encompasses ideas relevant to restoration and the people working within similar areas of influence or expertise. Increased capacity within a sphere and a higher degree of coalescing among spheres predict a greater probability of suc...
Dryocosmus kuriphilus Yasumatsu is a species originating from China that, during the 20th century, has spread rapidly throughout many countries, affecting mainly different of genus Castanea spp. In fact, it considered to be most important pest chestnut trees (Castanea sativa Miller), causing significant production losses. The adoption complementary measures chemical and biological controls woul...
To gain a better understanding of the effects of spatial structure on patterns of neighbourhood competition among hardwood trees, the three-dimensional extension of primary branches was surveyed for ten community-grown Castanea crenata (Fagaceae) trees with respect to the positioning of neighbouring branches and the slope of the forest floor. There were significantly more branches extending tow...
Abstract: Three new species, belonging to the newly proposed genus Pseudopicobia gen. n., inhabiting body quill feathers of puff-birds (Piciformes: Bucconidae), are described: P nonnula sp. n. from Nonnula frontalis (Sclater) in Colombia, P malacoptila sp. n. from Malacoptila panamensis Lafresnaye in Colombia and P hapaloptila sp. n. from Hapaloptila castanea (Verreaux) in Ecuador. The new genu...
We describe the first identification of Gnomoniopsis smithogilvyi causing brown rot on chestnut fruits in Chile, with an incidence 4.8%. Previously, Phomopsis castanea (IMI 278057) was reported as cause disease but a molecular re-identification revealed that it corresponded to G. smithogilvyi. All inoculated isolate RGM 2903 developed symptoms fruits.
