We describe the first identification of Gnomoniopsis smithogilvyi causing brown rot on chestnut fruits in Chile, with an incidence 4.8%. Previously, Phomopsis castanea (IMI 278057) was reported as cause disease but a molecular re-identification revealed that it corresponded to G. smithogilvyi.
