Deactivation of heterogeneous catalysts is a ubiquitous problem that causes loss of catalytic rate with time. This review on deactivation and regeneration of heterogeneous catalysts classifies deactivation by type (chemical, thermal, and mechanical) and by mechanism (poisoning, fouling, thermal degradation, vapor formation, vapor-solid and solid-solid reactions, and attrition/crushing). The key...

In a combined experimental and theoretical study the activation process of a single site ethylene oligomerization catalyst with aluminum based activators has been studied. The results put forward a plausible deactivation reaction path of the catalyst for trimethylaluminum, while for methylaluminoxane and a novel phenoxyaluminum-based activator the experimental catalyst’s activity correlates wit...

This article discusses the performance of ZrO2-supported size-selected Pt nanoparticles for the decomposition of methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol, and 2-butanol. The potential of each alcohol for the production of H2 and other relevant products in the presence of a catalyst is studied in a packed-bedmass flow reactor operating at atmospheric pressure. All the alcohols studied show some decompositi...

The Catofin propane process is an emerging industrial process for propylene production through dehydrogenation of propane. It is composed of multiple adiabatic fixed-bed reactors which undergo cyclic operations where propane dehydrogenation and catalyst regeneration alternate over roughly ten minute period for each. One of the major concerns in the operation of the Catofin process is maintainin...

This work presents model-based strategies for on-board catalyst monitoring and fault detection using a simplified catalyst oxygen storage and reversible deactivation model. The performance of the catalyst is inferred from the error between the post-catalyst exhaust gas oxygen sensor measurement and the model predicted value. Each of these strategies is based on the use of some test statistic th...

A novel, highly active catalyst Ni@MOF-5 showed unexpected activity at low temperature for CO2 methanation. The characterization results indicated that Ni was uniformly and highly dispersed over MOF-5. This catalyst showed high stability and almost no deactivation in long term stability tests up to 100 h.

the kinetics of catalyst deactivation and coke formation during dehydrogenation of propane over supported pt–based catalysts and, in particular, the effect of alkali metal promoters on catalyst activity and stability were studied. the analysis of propane conversion data showed that there is an optimum level of alkali metal promoter loading for both catalyst activity and stability.a model based ...
