We describe 2 cases of patients with loss of hepatic arterial flow during surgery for pancreatic head cancer due to celiac stenosis caused by median arcuate ligament compression. The first case underwent pylorus-resecting pancreatoduodenectomy for pancreatic head cancer. After resection of the gastroduodenal artery, flow in the common hepatic artery disappeared, and celiac axis stenosis was ide...

Celiac artery (CA) stenosis is a relatively common finding in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). In the presence of CA stenosis, arterial blood supply to the celiac territory is usually sustained from the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) through well-developed collaterals. In this paper, the authors report endosonographically identified prominent gastroduodenal artery as the sign...

An association of pancreatic cancer and median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is a rare and challenging situation in terms of treatment. A 60-year-old man diagnosed with pancreatic cancer underwent laparotomy. A pancreaticoduodenectomy was planned, but during the resection part of the operation, a celiac artery stenosis was noticed. The patient was diagnosed with MALS causing almost total cel...

PURPOSE To present a new approach route for recanalization of a chronically occluded superior mesenteric artery (SMA). TECHNIQUE Percutaneous treatment of an SMA occlusion can be accomplished in some cases via retrograde crossing through collaterals from the celiac artery. From a right common femoral artery (CFA) approach, an 8-F RDC guide catheter is advanced to the origin of the celiac arte...

A liver was harvested for transplantation from a 35 year old patient who was brain dead following a road traffic accident. During the procedure it was noted that there was a replaced right hepatic artery arising from the superior mesenteric artery (SMA). The left hepatic artery was arising from the common hepatic artery. The graft was harvested preserving the celiac axis and the origin of the S...

Isolated spontaneous dissection of the celiac trunk is rarely diagnosed in acute abdominal pain. We present two cases of celiac trunk and splenic artery dissection with splenic infarction. Patients were successfully managed and stabilized by medical treatment. Isolated celiac trunk dissection can be fatal, therefore providers should be careful not to overlook this entity.

Context It has been reported that some locally advanced pancreatic body and tail cancers can be radically resected by distal pancreatectomy with celiac axis resection. However, the removal of the celiac axis can result in fatal complications due to hepatic ischemia. Case report A Seventy-two-year-old man with pancreatic body cancer was selected to undergo distal pancreatectomy with celiac axis ...

Introduction: Spontaneous isolated visceral artery dissection is an uncommon event with unpredictable natural history and may lead to aneurysmal formation, rupture or arterial occlusion. Pre-disposing factors are not specific. With the development of new imaging modalities, can be diagnosed at early stage treated medically surgically. Case Report: We report a case previously healthy male patien...

Thrombosis of the celiac artery trunk is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain. Thrombosis of the celiac artery carries a high mortality and morbidity when the diagnoses and treatment are delayed. It is frequently associated with other cardiovascular events. The most common etiology is atherosclerosis. 20-30% of cases may have symptoms of chronic mesenteric ischemia. Main goal of the treatment i...

Peptidergic mechanisms influencing the resistance of the gastrointestinal vascular bed of the estuarine crocodile, Crocodylus porosus, were investigated. The gut was perfused in situ via the mesenteric and the celiac arteries, and the effects of different neuropeptides were tested using bolus injections. Effects on vascular resistance were recorded as changes in inflow pressures. Peptides found...
