One hundred and two consecutive patients with cerebral haematoma were prospectively allocated to one of two groups according to their CT on admission. Group 1 patients were thought to have a high probability of an underlying structural lesion and underwent cerebral angiography acutely. If normal, this was repeated at three months. Group 2 patients were thought not to have such a lesion and unde...
We report a rare case of Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) of the scalp in a 30 year-old Malay gentleman who presented with painless forehead swelling since birth. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and cerebral angiogram performed and the findings are discussed.
A previously healthy 9-year-old girl presented with sudden-onset headache followed by confusion. In the emergency department, she was hypertensive, bradycardic, and no longer responsive to any stimuli. An emergent head CT scan demonstrated a left frontal intraparenchymal hematoma with intraventricular and subarachnoid extension as well as subfalcine herniation (figure). She underwent decompress...
A 34-year-old man was admitted in the emergency room with headache, vomiting, gait ataxia, dizziness and vertigo. He was submitted to a cranial CT that showed an important hydrocephalus secondary to a forth ventricle compression by a posterior fossa hematoma. He received advanced life support in an intensive care unit (ICU) and was submitted to an external ventricular drainage (EVD), posteriorl...
Headache as a chief complaint is rare in the paediatric emergency room. Actually, very seldom cases secondary to life threatening conditions as non-traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage have been reported. A child with severe headache and nuchal rigidity and no other abnormalities on the physical examination is reported. Magnetic resonance angiography and cerebral angiography disclosed a ventricul...
Background: Spinal dural AVF is the most common type of spinal vascular malformation. However, presenting symptoms differ according to site of spinal involvement. This study described a case of arteriovenous malformation with paraparesis and incontinence. Case Presentation: Diagnosis of patient was confirmed by clinical and imaging examination using magnetic resonance image and ruling out ot...
BACKGROUND Few studies have examined seizures in pediatric brain arteriovenous malformation. In our study, risk factors associated with seizure occurrence and long-term seizure control outcomes after different treatments in pediatric arteriovenous malformation patients were investigated. METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted with clinical data from a cohort of 89 pediatric brain arte...
The year 2002 in therapeutic neuroradiology has been dominated by the publication of the International Subarachnoid Aneurysm Trial (ISAT), which has already generated considerable debate among those who treat cerebral aneurysms. Although less dramatic, advances have also occurred in the areas of extracranial and intracranial angioplasty/stenting, endovascular stroke therapy, and cerebral arteri...
A patient with a spontaneously thrombosed arteriovenous malformation (AVM) presented with epilepsy. The CT and MRI appearances were of an intrinsic cerebral neoplasm with extensive surrounding vasogenic cerebral oedema and a mass effect. Histopathology confirmed a large thrombosed AVM. The natural history of AVMs and spontaneous thrombosis are reviewed.
An aneurysm ruptured during superselective catheterization into the posterior cerebral artery for a left temporal arteriovenous malformation. The rupture may have been caused by stretching and displacement of the basilar and posterior cerebral arteries while the microcatheter with guide wire was advanced.
