PURPOSE Although time-of-flight (TOF)-magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) can clearly depict intracranial arteries, the arterial flow of middle cerebral artery (MCA) is occasionally not detected. We evaluated this phenomenon with reference to cerebrovascular dynamics. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventeen patients with suspected occlusion of MCA or internal carotid artery on TOF-MRA were enrolled....
Magnetic resonance angiography was applied to the study of blood flow dynamics in the circle of Willis in nine patients with cerebrovascular disease and two normal volunteers. In conjunction with two-dimensional or three-dimensional gradient-echo acquisitions, selective presaturation of individual vessels was used to determine the direction of blood flow and the origin of the vascular supply. P...
In order to define the clinical features, clinical patterns and significance of aneurysmal dilatation of the coronary arteries, five cases are presented which were diagnosed by coronary angiography. Three cases presented with left ventricular dysfunction secondary to coronary arterial occlusive disease and the fourth patient presented with thromboembolic cerebrovascular disease. The fifth case ...
We report two cases of Menkes kinky hair disease in which MR and MR angiography were performed. The clinical and imaging features are reviewed. MR demonstrated characteristic cerebrovascular tortuousity and thus may be a valuable aid in diagnosis and follow-up.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE To determine the accuracy of magnetic resonance angiography in assessing patients with cerebrovascular disease, we performed a study comparing the results of conventional cerebral angiography, duplex scanning, and magnetic resonance angiography. METHODS From 42 patients, a total of 25 carotid arteries were evaluated by all three techniques. The studies were independentl...
We present clinicopathologic findings in a patient treated with intraarterial thrombolysis and angioplasty for vertebrobasilar thrombosis. Autopsy revealed a marked inflammatory infiltrate within the vertebral artery at the site of catheter manipulation. This finding may have important implications for the use of interventional angiography in cerebrovascular disease.
Cardiac dysrhythmia may be responsible for signs of cerebrovascular insufficiency in some patients. Ten patients with cerebrovascular insufficiency were monitored for up to 24 hours with the Holter EKG monitor. Eight of the patients had transient ischemic attacks and two had mild deficits from a completed stroke. Eight of the ten patients had associated abnormal cerebral angiography, the most f...
