1. A strain of neurovaccine virus was cultivated in a medium consisting of minced chick embryo suspended in Tyrode's solution. 2. The virus upon cultivation apparently lost none of its essential characteristics. 3. The culture virus can be preserved and stored for long periods of time. Furthermore, the preserved virus can be used to initiate fresh cultures.

A new, further attenuated measles vaccine, developed by propagation of Edmonston B measles virus in the chorioallantoic membrane in ovo, has been clinically evaluated in children and found to compare favorably with a commercially available product. The vaccine is prepared in chick embryo tissue culture and appears to possess noteworthy stability at 4 C.

A sensitive and reproducible test for the determination of mumps serum-neutralizing antibody with Vero cells grown in disposable plastic microtiter plates is described. Serum end point titers obtained by this method showed excellent correlation with those obtained by the primary chick embryo tissue culture-hemadsorption tube test.

Monosodium glutamate added to 12-day chick embryo retinas in culture causes severe morphologic damage to the retina as judged by light microscopic examination. Damage is evident after a few hours with concentrations as low as 0.3 mM. Glutamyltransferase induction is also appreciably inhibited by the amino acid. General protein synthesis and RNA synthesis appear to be less affected.

The introduction of Bacillus typhosus into the hanging drop of a tissue culture of the intestine of a chick embryo leads to the rapid vacuolation of the cells of the tissues which comprise the growth of the cultures.
