The review presents the structures of the O-specific polysaccharides (O-antigens) of the lipopolysaccharides isolated from over 25 Citrobacter strains, which represent different species and serogroups. The correlation between O-antigen structure and immunospecificity as well as numerous cross-reactions between Citrobacter and other enterobacterial species are discussed.

The production of antileukemic enzyme methionine γ-lyase (MGL) in distinctly related bacteria, Citrobacter freundii and in their recombinants expressing the Vitresocilla hemoglobin (VHb) has been studied. This study concerns the potential of Citrobacter freundii expressing the Vitreoscilla hemoglobin gene (vgb) for the methionine γ- liyase production. Methionine γ- liyase production by Citrobac...

The complete genomes of two virulent phages infecting Citrobacter rodentium are reported here for the first time. Both bacteriophages were isolated from local sewage treatment plant effluents. Genome analyses revealed a close relationship between both phages and allowed their classification as members of the Autographivirinae subfamily in the T7-like genus.

The interaction of cefpirome and a cephalosporinase from Citrobacter freundii, including hydrolysis and inhibition, was studied in comparison with those of cefotiam, cefotaxime, and ceftazidime. Cefpirome was hydrolyzed by the enzyme more rapidly at Vmax than were cefotaxime and ceftazidime. However, the low affinity of the enzyme for cefpirome caused a reduction in the hydrolytic rate of cefpi...

Bacteriophage Merlin is a T4-like myophage which infects Citrobacter freundii, a member of the Enterobacteriaceae family. C. freundii is an opportunistic pathogen that is a common cause of nosocomial infections. This report announces the complete genome of myophage Merlin and describes its features.

Citrobacter freundii is an opportunistic pathogen that has been linked to nosocomial infections, such as brain abscesses and pneumonia. Further study on phages infecting C. freundii may provide therapeutics for these infections. Here, we announce the complete genome sequence of the FelixO1-like myophage Moogle and describe its features.

INTRODUCTION Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi is the causative agent of typhoid fever with over 22 million cases and over 200,000 deaths reported annually. A vaccine is much needed for use in young children and the Novartis Vaccines Institute for Global Health (NVGH) is developing a conjugate vaccine which targets S. Typhi Vi capsular polysaccharide. METHODOLOGY Here we describe a method sui...

soil-dwelling nematodes from steinernematidae family are obligate parasites of insects and usually referred to as entomopathogenic nematodes (epns). these nematodes are symbiotically associated with entomopathogenic bacteria xenorhabdus spp. the bacterial symbionts are carried monoxenically in a special vesicle in the infective juveniles (ijs). in the present study we report the isolation of tw...

The complete genome of bacteriophage CVT22 infecting Citrobacter sp. strain TM1552 is reported here. Both the bacteriophage and Citrobacter sp. TM1552 were isolated from the gut of the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus. This is the first report of a genome sequence of a bacteriophage isolated from the termite gut.
