BACKGROUND Closed femoral nailing is universally accepted as the treatment of choice in almost all diaphyseal femoral fractures in adults. Numerous authors reported favorable results applying the same surgical technique in the adolescent patient group. Nevertheless, reports of complications such as avascular necrosis and alteration of the proximal femoral anatomy have dampened the initial enthu...
We report a complication of radiopaque wire breakage from the medullary tube during closed antegrade intramedullary nailing for a femoral shaft fracture. To avoid such complication, the medullary tube should be checked carefully for colour changes and surface defects, and tested for flexibility before each use. The medullary tube should also be replaced before 100 exposures to autoclaving.
Background & Aim: Most acute humeral shaft fractures can be successfully treated by conservative methods. Operation is recommended for certain fractures. Intramedullary nailing offers a dependable solution for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures, especially in polytrauma patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate intramedullary nailing outcomes and complications in humeral fractur...

Construct Failure in an Atypical Femoral Fracture treated with Intramedullary Nailing: A Case Report
ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to document a rare case of construct failure in a 68-year old Filipina who sustained an atypical femoral fracture (AFF) in her left subtrochanteric area. The patient previously had a 40-month history of alendronate 70mg + vitamin D 5600u therapy for osteoporosis and underwent closed intramedullary nailing for the AFF. Six months postoperatively, she began to ex...
We reviewed 63 patients with fractures of the distal tibial metaphysis, with or without minimally displaced extension into the ankle joint. The fractures had been caused by two distinct mechanisms, either a direct bending force or a twisting injury. This influenced the pattern of the fracture and its time to union. All fractures were managed by statically locked intramedullary nailing, with som...
conclusions the functional outcome 22 months post injury showed that although primary treatment method uses locked imn in humeral shaft fractures, unlocked imn can be used in appropriate cases. less injury risk to the axillary and radial nerve, short period of surgery, and less radiation can be considered as advantages of this technique. introduction although intramedullary nailing (imn) is use...
can be difficult when using the standard entry portal. We evaluated the suprapatellar portal, using a midline quadriceps tendon incision, to perform intramedullary nailing of the tibia. Seven patients were treated with this adaptation of the standard intramedullary nailing procedure. An arthroscopy was done before and after the nailing procedure. No special equipment was used to perform the int...
