The viability of a hydrogen economy depends on the design of efficient catalytic systems based on earth-abundant elements. Innovative breakthroughs for hydrogen evolution based on molecular tetraimine cobalt compounds have appeared in the past decade. Here we show that such a diimine-dioxime cobalt catalyst can be grafted to the surface of a carbon nanotube electrode. The resulting electrocatal...

Heterogeneous sulphate radical based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) have lately been raised as a promising candidate for water treatment. Despite the progress made, either the stability or the performance of the current catalysts is still far from satisfactory for practical applications. Herein, using polydopamine-cobalt ion complex that inspired by mussel proteins as medium, we facilel...

To eliminate caffeine, one of the most common pharmaceuticals and personal care products, from water, Oxone (peroxymonosulfate salt) was proposed to degrade it. To accelerate the generation of sulfate radicals from Oxone, a magnetic cobalt/carbon nanocomposite (CCN) was prepared from a one-step carbonization of a cobalt-based Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework (ZIF-67). The resultant CCN exhibits i...

The effects of electronic properties of inner and outer surfaces of Carbon Nano Tubes (CNTs) on the deactivation of cobalt Fischer-Tropsch (FT) catalysts were studied. The comparative characterization of the fresh and used catalysts by TEM, XRD, TPR, BET and H2 chemisorption showed that cobalt re-oxidation, cobalt-support interactions and sintering are the main sources o...

Three water-soluble cobalt porphyrins have been investigated as water oxidation catalysts via photo-initiation using Ru(II)(bpy)3(2+)/Na2S2O8. The pH dependence of the turnover frequency revealed maximum activity at pH 11. Based on the second order dependence on catalyst concentration for the rate of water oxidation, we suggest a bimolecular radical coupling process as the rate determining step.

Heck reaction catalyzed by cobalt hollow nanospheres has been developed; the coupling of alkenes with aryl iodide or aryl bromide in the presence of potassium carbonate provides the corresponding products with moderate to good yields, which reveals obvious advantages such as low-cost catalyst, ligand-free condition, the recyclability of the catalyst and simple experimental operation.

Microbial fuel cell (MFC) converts the organic compounds to electricity. The higher cost of the cathode catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is one of the major limitations in the technology. Therefore, the study endeavored to introduce a novel cathode catalyst i.e. porous Co3O4 flakes for ORR in MFCs. The flakes exhibited the micropore surface area of 1.0372 m2/g. The MFC with cobalt o...

The synthesis of a second-generation cobalt catalyst for the formation of trans-THF products via the Mukaiyama aerobic oxidative cyclization is reported. Two procedures have been developed with the new water-soluble catalyst that give superior yields and greatly simplify purification compared to the previous catalysts.

Mechanistic studies have revealed that the isospecific polymerization of epoxides by a discrete salen cobalt(III) catalyst occurs at the surface of the undissolved, crystalline complex.

We report the first use of cobalt aluminophosphate (CoAPO5) as a water oxidation catalyst. A decrease in the overvoltage by about 0.2 V with respect to catalyst free FTO has been observed. Additionally, we show that CoAPO5, deposited on ITO or Pt, can also act as a photo-electro-catalyst, as it generates enhanced oxidation currents in the presence of light starting from a bias of +0.8 V vs. Ag/...
