in this study, the performance of an irreversible regenerative brayton cycle is sought through power maximizations using finite-time thermodynamic concept in finite-size components. optimizations are performed using a genetic algorithm. in order to take into account the finite-time and finite-size concepts in the current problem, a dimensionless mass-flow rate parameter is used to deploy time v...

Our fully automatic method to compute the biparietal diameter (BPD) and occipitofrontal diameter (OFD) from fetal ultrasound images is based on fitting an ellipse modelling the head contour of the fetus to ultrasound images. This is achieved by minimizing a cost function with respect to the parameters of the ellipse using a global multiscale multistart Nelder-Mead algorithm.

Generating companies use the maintenance cost function as the sole or main objective for creating the maintenance schedule of power generators. Usually only maintenance activities related costs are considered to derive the cost function. However, in deregulated markets, maintenance related costs alone do not represent the full costs of generators. This paper models various cost components that ...

Third-party process certification programs such as the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and the ISO 9000 set of standards have been popular in the IT outsourcing industry as a means of differentiation and quality assurance. Specifically, prior theory in signaling indicates that in markets where there is significant information asymmetry between vendors and potential clients, firms perceive value...

Thin-film photovoltaic (PV) modules often suffer from a variety of parasitic resistive losses in transparent conductive oxide (TCO) and absorber layers that significantly affect the module electrical performance. This paper presents the holistic investigation of resistive effects due to TCO lateral sheet resistance and shunts in amorphous-silicon (a-Si) thin-film PV modules by simultaneous use ...

Despite the success of Gaussian processes (GPs) in modelling spatial stochastic processes, dealing with large datasets is still challenging. The problem arises by the need to invert a potentially large covariance matrix during inference. In this paper we address the complexity problem by constructing a new stationary covariance function (Mercer kernel) that naturally provides a sparse covarianc...

the purpose of this paper is to estimate the welfare cost of inflation in iran. we first use the long-horizon regression approach developed by fisher and seater (1993) to obtain an estimate of the inflation rate elasticity of money demand and then the baily’s consumer surplus approach to calculate the welfare cost function. the results show that reducing inflation rate from 40% to 0% increases ...

artificial neural networks have the advantages such as learning, adaptation, fault-tolerance, parallelism and generalization. this paper mainly intends to offer a novel method for finding a solution of a fuzzy equation that supposedly has a real solution. for this scope, we applied an architecture of fuzzy neural networks such that the corresponding connection weights are real numbers. the sugg...
