The chiral magnetic e ect is the generation of an electric current induced by chirality imbalance in the presence of a magnetic field. It is a macroscopic manifestation of the quantumanomaly1,2 in relativisticfield theoryof chiral fermions (massless spin 1/2 particles with a definite projection of spin on momentum)—a remarkable phenomenon arising from a collective motion of particles and antipa...

UNLABELLED We perform first-principles calculations of mechanical and electronic properties of silicene under uniaxial strains. Poisson's ratio and the rigidity of silicene show strong chirality dependence under large uniaxial strains. The ultimate strains of silicene with uniaxial strain are smaller than those with biaxial strain. We find that uniaxial strains induce Dirac point deviation from...

Intriguing topological phases may appear in both insulating and semimetallic states. Topological insulators exhibit topologically nontrivial band inversion, while topological Dirac/Weyl semimetals show “relativistic” linear band crossings. Here, we report an unusual topological state of Pt3Sn, where the two topological features appear simultaneously. Based on first-principles calculations, we s...

Using ab initio density functional theory the band structure and the dielectric function of a bct Cd3As2 crystal are calculated. We find a Dirac semimetal with two Dirac nodes k± near the Γ point on the tetragonal axis. The bands near the Fermi level exhibit a linear behavior. The resulting Dirac cones are anisotropic and the electron-hole symmetry is destroyed along the tetragonal axis. Along ...

Density functional theory calculations with an on-site Coulomb repulsion term reveal competing ground states in (111)-oriented (LaAlO(3))(M)/(SrTiO(3))(N) superlattices with n-type interfaces, ranging from spin, orbitally polarized (with selective e(g)('), a(1g), or d(xy) occupation), Dirac point Fermi surface, to charge-ordered flat band phases. These phases are steered by the interplay of (i)...
