Venting devices are commonly used to try to reduce the damage caused by any dust explosion that may occur in silo systems. In North America and Europe the sizing of these vent areas is governed by standards NFPA 68 and EN 14491 respectively, both of which have recently come into force. The aim of the present work was to compare these standards in terms of the cost of protecting against dust exp...

It is known that unconfined dust explosions typically start off with a relatively weak primary flame followed by a severe secondary explosion. We show that clustering of dust particles in a temperature stratified turbulent flow ahead of the primary flame may give rise to a significant increase in the radiation penetration length. These particle clusters, even far ahead of the flame, are suffici...

Dry dust collectors are a typical and gas coexistence space. Dust explosion risk assessments should be performed for effective prevention control of accidents. In this paper, assessment index system removal systems was constructed following the characteristics actual operation dry collector. The proposed consisted three first-level indexes (dust characteristic parameters, environmental paramete...

We present infrared observations of the young, oxygen-rich supernova remnant 1E 0102.2-7219 (E0102) in the Small Magellanic Cloud, obtained with the Spitzer Space Telescope. The remnant is detected at 24 μm but not at 8 or 70 μm and has a filled morphology with two prominent filaments. We find evidence for the existence of up to 8× 10 M⊙ of hot dust (Td ∼ 120 K) associated with the remnant. Mos...

SN 2006jc is a peculiar supernova (SN), in which the formation of dust has been confirmed at an early epoch of ∼50 days after the explosion. We investigate the possibility of such an earlier formation of dust grains in the expanding ejecta of SN 2006jc, applying the Type Ib SN model that is developed to reproduce the observed light curve. We find that the rapid decrease of the gas temperature i...
