In this paper, a procedure which gives Euclidean solutions of 3-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills equations when one has solutions of the Einstein equations is proposed. The method is based on reformulating Yang-Mills theory in such a way that it becomes a gravity. It is applied to find black hole solutions of the coupled Einstein Yang-Mills equations.
According to the perturbation order, the equations of motion of low-energy string effective action are the generalized Einstein equations. Thus, by making use of the conformal transformation of the metric tensor, it is possible to map the low-energy string effective action into f(T) gravity, relating the dilaton field to the torsion scalar. Considering a homogeneous and isotropic universe and ...
A major difficulty with conventional formulations of euclidean quantum gravity is the fact that the Einstein action I, can become arbitrarily negative [l]. This means that the path integral of exp( -In) does not converge. The problem persists for lattice formulations of gravity [2] and provides an obstacle to progress for calculations of anything other than the weak field limit [3]. A possible ...
Motivated by applications to black hole physics and duality, we study the effect of higher derivative corrections on the dimensional reduction of four-dimensional Einstein, Einstein-Liouville and Einstein-Maxwell gravity to one direction, as appropriate for stationary, spherically symmetric solutions. We construct a field redefinition scheme such that the one-dimensional Lagrangian is corrected...
Flat space cosmology spacetimes are exact time-dependent solutions of three-dimensional gravity theories, such as Einstein gravity or topologically massive gravity. We exhibit a novel kind of phase transition between these cosmological spacetimes and the Minkowski vacuum. At sufficiently high temperature, (rotating) hot flat space tunnels into a universe described by flat space cosmology.
In this talk we give an overview of some recent developments in gauge and gravity theories, focusing on a new duality between color and kinematics. This duality allows us to construct gravity amplitudes by a simple replacement of color factors by kinematic numerator factors. Applications of these ideas for determining the ultraviolet compatibility of supersymmetric versions of Einstein gravity ...
In any quantum theory of gravity we do expect corrections to Einstein gravity to occur. Yet, at fundamental level, it is not apparent what the most relevant corrections are. We argue that the generic curvature square corrections present in lower dimensional actions of various compactified string theories provide a natural passage between the classical and quantum realms of gravity. The Gauss-Bo...
I have been asked to describe the status of perturbative expansions of gravity theories. This is a fairly active and interesting subject. I will try to be brief, because I have a lot to say about string theory, which is the main subject of my lectures at this school. The motivation for studying perturbative gravity expansions is to ascertain whether standard methods of quantum field theory are ...
The cosmological constant is one of the most pressing problems in modern physics. We address this issue from an emergent gravity standpoint, by using an analogue gravity model. Indeed, the dynamics of the emergent metric in a Bose-Einstein condensate can be described by a Poisson-like equation with a vacuum source term reminiscent of a cosmological constant. The direct computation of this term ...
