A 29-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for further examination of elevated liver enzymes, hepatosplenomegaly, thrombocytopenia and pericardial/pleural effusions. Fibroscan (EchoSens, Paris, France) and supersonic shear imaging (Aixplorer Supersonic Imagine, Aixen-Provence, France) revealed increased liver stiffness, consistent with cirrhosis (Picture A). A liver biopsy was performed and...
Background and Aims: The decision to treat chronic hepatitis B Virus infection (CHB) may necessitate an assessment of the degree liver fibrosis. Guidelines recommend Fibroscan examination in such cases. However, it is costly not widely available. Red cell distribution width (RDW) platelet count are simple parameters obtained from blood pictures; their ratio RDW (RPR) was claimed correlate with ...
Background and Aim: Simple non-invasive tests for liver fibrosis like APRI, BARD, NFS, FIB-4 are easy to perform, cheap. Studies showed that fibroscan has good sensitivity in detecting NAFLD, but it is not available widely [1, 2]. There paucity of data about these noninvasive prediction Indian NAFLD patients. Aim this study compare various scores (APRI, FIB-4) with fibro-scan biopsy predict Met...
BACKGROUND & AIMS A novel controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) using the signals acquired by the FibroScan® has been developed as a method for evaluating steatosis. The aim of this study is to assess the performance of the CAP for the detection and quantification of steatosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). MATERIAL AND METHODS 136 subjects with CHB underwent liver biopsy and Fi...
Chronic hepatitis B is the most important cause of liver cirrhosis in Asia. Liver fibrosis is the intermediate stage to liver cirrhosis. Determining severity of liver fibrosis is important to determine the prognosis, risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, and need for antiviral therapy. Liver biopsy is the gold standard, but it is limited by its invasiveness and risk of bleeding. Transient elastogra...
Methods Consecutive HIV patients followed at 3 Italian Institutions, with or without coinfection with hepatitis viruses, were enrolled Jan to Jun, 2010. Transient Elastography (FibroScan©) was performed by 1 physician per site, blinded to patients’ data. Only procedures with ≥10 successful acquisitions and a success rate of ≥60% were evaluated. Elastographic results were expressed in KiloPascal...
Patients with chronic hepatitis C may have advanced fibrosis at first evaluation. Using the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) definition (FibroScan® >9.5 kPa) for "late presenter for care" (LP), we found that 32% (169 of 527) of patients were LP. Being a LP was associated with increasing age and a history of alcohol overuse.
UNLABELLED The sequential algorithm for fibrosis evaluation (SAFE) and the Bordeaux algorithm (BA), which cross-check FibroTest with the aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) or FibroScan, are very accurate but provide only a binary diagnosis of significant fibrosis (SAFE or BA for Metavir F ≥ 2) or cirrhosis (SAFE or BA for F4). Therefore, in clinical practice, physicians h...
