Many studies on broccoli have analyzed the functional components and their functionality in terms of antioxidant and anticancer activities; however, these studies have focused on the florets of different varieties. Investigation of the functionality of broccoli by-products such as leaves, stems, and leaf stems from different cultivars and harvest dates might be valuable for utilizing waste mate...

The maize sex determination pathway results in the arrest of stamen in ear spikelets and the abortion of pistils in both the tassel spikelets and in the secondary florets of ear spikelets. Arrested stamen cells showed no signs of DNA fragmentation, an absence of CYCLIN B expression, and an accumulation of the negative cell cycle regulator WEE1 RNA.

Ethylene regulates many processes in plant growth, development, and senescence. Two enzymes, ACC synthase and ACC oxidase, are responsible for ethylene biosynthesis from its precursor S-adenosyl Met (Yang and Hoffman, 1984), and blocking the synthesis of these enzymes in antisense RNA experiments results in reduced ethylene synthesis (Hamilton et al., 1990; Oeller et al., 1991). Functional iden...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS The inflorescence of grass species such as wheat, rice and maize consists of a unique reproductive structure called the spikelet, which is comprised of one, a few, or several florets (individual flowers). When reproductive growth is initiated, the inflorescence meristem differentiates a spikelet meristem as a lateral branch; the spikelet meristem then produces a floret meris...

Geraniums are sensitive to ethylene during shipping and respond by abscising their petals. Treatment of stock plants with ethylene (ethephon) in order to increase cutting yield resulted in earlier flowering in Pelargonium × hortorum ‘Kim’ and ‘Veronica’, but did not result in increased susceptibility to petal abscission following exposure to 1.0 μL·L–1 ethylene. Treatment of ‘Kim’, ‘Veronica’, ...

Cut dahlia (Dahlia Cav.) flowers have recently become popular in Japan, but their marketability is limited by poor vase life. During the postharvest period, senescence of petals initiates from outermost whorl and then proceeds into inner petals. We found that drawing resistances ‘Kokuchou’, ‘Nesshou’, ‘Saisetsu’ decreases with time because gradually detach ovaries. A reduction resistance occurr...

This study was conducted to assess the response of Gibberellic acid and corm division on floral attributes gladiolus cv. Punjab Dawn at Horticulture Research Farm Institute Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India during two consecutive year (2017-2019). The treatments comprised growth regulators with concentration i.e. GA3 100 ppm 200 including control (distilled water)...

Abstract The genus Pentacalia belongs to the tribe Senecioneae. It is represented by approximately 160 species predominantly distributed in Andes. Species of are characterized having a scandent habit, usually alternate leaves, axillary or terminal capitulescence, homogamous heterogamous capitula, commonly yellow ray-florets, yellowish, creamy, whitish disc-florets, sagittate caudate anther-base...

Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) to obtain phenolics from vegetable wastes has been of recent interest. Broccoli is one the most globally produced vegetables, and around 43% harvest considered waste. Thus, given significant quantity broccoli waste generated, objective this work was optimize MAE, maximize total phenolic content (TPC) by-products (leaves stems) florets. The Response Surface An...
