Geological faults are highly developed in the eastern Liaoning Province in China, where Mesozoic granitic intrusions and Archean and Paleoproterozoic metamorphic rocks are widely distributed. Although the heat flow value in eastern Liaoning Province is generally low, the hot springs are very developed. It is obvious that the faults have significant control over the distribution of hot springs, ...

background: in recent years, silver nanoparticles due to their antimicrobial properties, have formed about 56% of nanoparticles global production. since the released nanoparticles ultimately enter water ecosystems, their maximum toxic effects are magnified in aquatic ecosystems. the aim of this study is to show how salinity can decrease the toxic effects of silver nanoparticles on exposed rainb...

Using a fixed-speed test, burst swimming performance was found to vary among nine populations of emergent sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka fry reared in a common-garden environment. No consistent relationship was, however, detected between difficulty of fry migration (upstream v. downstream) to rearing areas and total burst swimming duration or bursting rate.

Uniparental maternal brood care often coincides with multiple paternity and single maternity of broods, possibly reflecting benefits of polyandry and costs of uniparental care. Genetic data from the maternally mouthbrooding cichlid fish Simochromis pleurospilus revealed the opposite pattern--low polyandry and allomaternal care. More than 70% of the investigated females had mated with a single m...

Edema and cardiovascular dysfunction occur in vertebrates exposed to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) during early development. This study examined cytochrome P4501A (CYP1A) induction in endothelium and its possible association with mortality due to the edema and vascular effects of TCDD in lake trout early life stages. Lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) eggs were injected at 24-50 hr ...

This work evaluated the effect of food restriction and refeeding of matrinxã females, Brycon amazonicus, on their reproductive performance and on the growth and survival of the progeny. Broodstocks were distributed in 8 earthen tanks (15 fish/tank) and fish from 4 tanks were fed daily (G1) while fish from the other 4 tanks were fed for 3 days and not fed for 2 days (G2) during 6 months prior to...

The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary fructo-oligosaccharide (FOS) (0, 1, 2 and 3%) supplementation on the growth performance, haemato-immunological parameters, cultivable autochthonous (non-adherent) intestinal microbiota and stress resistance of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) fry (3·23 (SEM 0·14) g). These parameters were measured after feeding the carp fry with...

An experiment was undertaken to develop a suitable seed production technique for Sperata aor in captivity. Naturally produced fry of aor was reared at different densities in nine nursery ponds 0.012 ha in size with an average depth of 0.8 m each. Three stocking densities tested, each of which was triplicated. Fry of aor stocked at 100,000/ha was designated as treatment-1 (T1), 150,000/ha as tre...
