Using the idea of Tikhonov’s regularization, we present properties of the approximating curve for the split feasibility problem SFP and obtain the minimum-norm solution of SFP as the strong limit of the approximating curve. It is known that in the infinite-dimensional setting, Byrne’s CQ algorithm Byrne, 2002 has only weak convergence. We introduce a modification of Byrne’s CQ algorithm in such...

The aim of this study is to contribute to the understanding of motivations for cross-generational relationships and how the perception of risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV affects condom use in Kenya. Eight focus-group discussions were conducted with women and 28 interviews were held with men in four Kenyan towns. Ethnograph 5.0 computer software was used fo...

We introduce a class of finite-horizon dynamic optimization problems that we call multiaction stochastic dynamic programs (DPs). Their distinguishing feature is that the decision in each state is a multi-dimensional vector. These problems can in principle be solved using Bellman’s backward recursion. However, complexity of this procedure grows exponentially in the dimension of the decision vect...

Platelet aggregability was measured using the screen filtration pressure (SFP) method in 50 elderly healthy people, 93 persons with essential hypertension, 166 patients with cerebral thrombosis at the recovery stage (more than two months after onset), and 74 patients with cerebral hemorrhage at the recovery stage. SFP by 3 muM ADP in the healthy persons, the hypertensive patients, and the patie...

Preclinical Research This article describes the properties of a novel topical NSAID (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) patch, SFPP (S(+)-flurbiprofen plaster), containing the potent cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor, S(+)-flurbiprofen (SFP). The present studies were conducted to confirm human COX inhibition and absorption of SFP and to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of SFPP in a rat adjuvant-i...

In the present study we examined key issues regarding infant behavior in the still-face paradigm (SFP) in terms of individual variations, stability, and predictors. The sample consisted of 115 mothers and infants, with assessments at ages 3 and 6 months, including observations of maternal and infant behavior in the SFP, and parent reports of infant temperament. Both robust patterns and individu...

A novel formalism for bayesian learning in the context of complex inference models is proposed. The method is based on the use of the stationary Fokker-Planck (SFP) approach to sample from the posterior density. Stationary Fokker-Planck sampling generalizes the Gibbs sampler algorithm for arbitrary and unknown conditional densities. By the SFP procedure, approximate analytical expressions for t...

The goal of the Young Scientist Program (YSP) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (WUSM) is to broaden science literacy and recruit talent for the scientific future. In particular, YSP seeks to expose underrepresented minority high school students from St. Louis public schools (SLPS) to a wide variety of careers in the sciences. The centerpiece of YSP, the Summer Focus Prog...

The Bacillus subtilis Sfp protein activates the peptidyl carrier protein (PCP) domains of surfactin synthetase by transferring the 4'-phosphopantetheinyl moiety of coenzyme A (CoA) to a serine residue conserved in all PCPs. Its wide PCP substrate spectrum renders Sfp a biotechnologically valuable enzyme for use in combinatorial non-ribosomal peptide synthesis. The structure of the Sfp-CoA compl...

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(15)H(12)N(2)O(3), contains two almost identical mol-ecules forming an nearly C(2-)symmetric dimeric pattern. The dihedral angles between the pyrrole ring and the phthalimide unit are 82.95 (8) and 86.57 (8)° for the two mol-ecules. Within such a dimer, the phthalimide units of the two mol-ecules form a dihedral angle of 1.5 (5)°.
