The optimization of continuous parameters in electrotechnical design using electromagnetic field simulation is already standard. In this paper, we present a new sequential modelling approach for mixed-integer simulationbased optimization. We apply the method for the optimization of integerand real-valued geometrical parameters of the coils of a superconductive magnet.

Geometrical optics analysis of the structural imperfection of retroreflection corner cubes is described. In the analysis, a geometrical optics model of six-beam reflection patterns generated by an imperfect retroreflection corner cube is developed, and its structural error extraction is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem. The nonlinear conjugate gradient method is employed for solvi...

The numerical optimization of continuous parameters in electrotechnical design using electromagnetic field simulation is already standard. In this paper, we describe a new sequential surrogate optimization approach for simulation-based mixed-integer nonlinear programming problems. We apply the method for the optimization of combined integerand real-valued geometrical parameters of the coils of ...

Attributes such as perimeter, area, diameter, sum of distances between vertices and width can be evaluated for every planar convex polygon. Fixing one of these attributes while minimizing of maximizing another defines families of optimization problems. Some of these problems have a trivial solution, and several others have been solved, some since the Greeks, by geometrical reasoning. During the...

In a recent project the authors have proposed the adoption of Optimization Systems [1] as a bridging element between Computer-Aided Innovation (CAI) and PLM to identify geometrical contradictions [2], a particular case of the TRIZ physical contradiction [3]. A further development of the research [4] has revealed that the solutions obtained from several topological optimizations can be considere...

In this paper, a systematic approach is presented for optimal design of tunnel support lining using two-dimensional finite element analysis models of soil-structure interaction developed in ABAQUS software and the Modified Colliding Bodies Optimization (MCBO) algorithm implemented in MATLAB environment. This approach is then employed to study the influence of variable geometrical and geo-mechan...

Mini and micro robots, which can swim in an underwater environment, have drawn widespread research interests because of their potential applications to the clinical drug delivery, biotechnology, manufacturing, mobile sensor networks, etc. In this paper, a prototype of microrobot based on the motion principle of living microorganisms such as E. Coli Bacteria is presented. The properties of this ...

The buckling torque may be much less than the yield torque in very thin rectangular tubes under torsion. In this paper, simple closed-form formulae are presented for buckling analysis of long hollow rectangular tubes under torsion. By the presented formulae, one can obtain the critical torque or the critical angle of twist of the tube in terms of its geometrical parameters and material constant...
