Aspartokinase III, encoded by lysC, is responsible for the first step of lysine biosynthesis in Escherichia coli. In this study, a lysC knockout E. coli W3110 strain was generated to study the differential gene expression profiles of wild type and lysC knockout strains. Several significant changes were observed, including biosynthesis of lysine, oxaloacetate, alpha-ketoglutarate and glutamate g...

A method is described for determining N-acetylglutamate as glutamate. N-Acetylglutamate content of hepatocytes from 48 h-starved rats is high. It shows no parallelism with rates of urea synthesis from glutamine. We question its accepted function as a short-term regulator of urea synthesis.

Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from soybeans fermented by strains of Bacillus subtilis natto. It gives off a strong ammonia smell during secondary fermentation, and the biochemical basis for this ammonia production was investigated in this study. When natto was fermented by strain r22, ammonia production was shown to involve degradation of soybean proteins releasing amino acids, and ...

the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of balancing low protein diets for methionine and lysine on performance of early lactation holstein cows under hot environmental temperature. twenty one multiparous holstein cows in early lactation were allocated to three experimental rations including, 1) high protein ration with 17.5% cp, 2) medium protein ration with 16% cp and 12 g/d rumen p...

Omics approaches provide more metabolic information to explain the relationship between dietary nutrition and fish growth. This study aimed explore metabolome proteome response of turbot ( Scophthalmus maximus ) fed diets containing lysine leucine in free dipeptide forms by integrated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)-based metabolomics isobaric tags for relative absolut...

An enzymatic, fluorometric method is described for determination of serum urea on silicone-rubber pads. In this method, the reagents are lyophilized on the surface of the pads, NADH on one side and a mixture of urease, glutamate dehydrogenase, and alpha-ketoglutarate on the other. The rate of disappearance of NADH fluorescence at 460nm (excitation wavelength, 340 nm) is monitored and related to...

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the interactive effects among porcine somatotropin (pST), salbutamol, and dietary lysine on growth performance, nitrogen balance, and carcass characteristics of finishing barrows (n = 32; 62.8 kg initially). Two replicate 32-d studies were set up in a split-plot design to evaluate singular and combined use of pST (0 or 4 mg/d) and salbutamol (0 or 2.75 pp...

The mass transfers of O2, glucose, NH3, urea and amino acids across the portal-drained viscera (PDV) and the liver were quantified, by arterio-venous techniques, during the last 4 h of a 100 h infusion of 0 (basal), 150 or 400 mumol NH4HCO3/min into the mesenteric vein of three sheep given 800 g grass pellets/d and arranged in a 3 x 3 Latin-square design. Urea irreversible loss rate (ILR) was a...

the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of supplementation of different level protein diets with rumen protected methionine and lysine on performance and ruminal parameters in holstein dairy cows when in their early lactation. twenty one dairy cows in their early lactations were assigned to three treatments in a randomized block design experiment of a 35-d duration period. diets...
