Nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes consist of many cup-shaped graphitic compartments termed as nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube cups (NCNCs). These as-synthesized graphitic nanocups from chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method were stacked in a head-to-tail fashion held only through noncovalent interactions. Individual NCNCs can be isolated out of their stacking structure through a series of chemical...

A natural self-regeneration step for urea derived graphitic carbon nitride with platinum nanoparticles is found by simply opening the system to air in the dark under ambient conditions, following its solar-driven hydrogen production. The produced peroxides deactivate the graphitic carbon nitride. Release of weakly bound peroxides on the polymeric semiconductor surface is a crucial process for r...

A thin nitrogen-doped graphitic carbon layer is elaborately introduced into the Pt/C surface to not only inhibit migration and dissolution of Pt nanoparticles, but also impart activity to the integral catalyst without blocking the inner Pt catalytic active sites. The corrosion of the carbon support can also be alleviated due to the outer graphitic coverage.

A facile and potentially scalable synthesis route to obtain SnO2-carbon composites was developed. SnO2 nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of two types of graphitic carbon: a) commercial porous graphite (HG) and b) graphitic carbon nanostructures (GCN). The synthesis procedure consists of two simple steps: i) room temperature formation/deposition of SnO2 nanocrystals and ii) thermal tre...

We present a novel and facile synthesis methodology for obtaining graphitic carbon structures from Fe(II) and Co(II) gluconates. The formation of graphitic carbon can be carried out in only one step by means of heat treatment of these organic salts at a temperature of 900 degrees C or 1000 degrees C under inert atmosphere. This process consists of the following steps: (a) pyrolysis of the organ...

Binder-free mesoporous graphitic carbon composite films on polymer or metal substrates are attractive for high-surface-area electrodes to achieve superior device performances. However, rapid and large-area fabrication of such materials remains a significant challenge due the harsh conditions required carbonization process. We report an efficient method that combines bottom-up precursor film ass...

In this study, we prepared a mesoporous carbon with hexagonally packed mesopores through evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA)—with the diblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide-b-ε-caprolactone) (PEO-b-PCL) as the template (EO114CL84), phenolic resin as the carbon precursor, hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) as the curing agent, and star octakis-PEO-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxa...
