BACKGROUND Oxidative damage (OD) biomarkers have been used to evaluate metabolic stress undergone by alcoholic individuals. In alcoholic patients, these biomarkers are usually measured at late stages, i.e., when the alcoholic patients are showing clear signs of impaired hepatic function. OD biomarkers are sensitive indicators of impaired metabolic function, and might be useful in early stages o...

High fat diet group showed a significant rise in serum and hepatic total cholesterol, triglyceride and atherogenic index which are major biomarkers of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk. The liver function markers, lipid peroxidation and proinflammatory cytokine levels were elevated in high fat diet group whereas antioxidant levels significantly reduced. These findings manifest hepatic damage...

Although it is well documented that neutrophils are critical for the delayed phase of hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury, there is no direct evidence for a specific neutrophil-derived oxidant stress in vivo. Therefore, we used a model of 60 min of partial hepatic ischemia and 0-24 h of reperfusion to investigate neutrophil accumulation and to analyze biomarkers for a general oxidant stress [gl...

BACKGROUND Obesity, an epidemic among West Virginia children, as well as insulin resistance (IR), is well-established contributors to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Progression of NASH can lead to hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis, making early detection imperative. The standard for diagnosing NASH is histologically via liver biopsy, which is highly invasive and generally contraindicated in ...
