Herpes simplex virus types 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2) are members of the Herpesviridae family. About 40% to 80% of the world populations are infected with HSV and its prevalence is high in Iran. The high prevalence of this virus in the community and the ability of the virus in causing fatal diseases among immunocompromised patients, have encouraged studies to be performed on HSV and suitable cell ...

The antigenic cross-reactive characteristics of herpes B virus and herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 (HSV-1) and HSV-2 are responsible for false-positive diagnoses by serological assays in humans and macaques. In the present study, we developed a fluorometric indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with recombinant herpes B virus glycoprotein D (gD) and HSV-1 and HSV-2 gG (gG-1 and g...

The complete nucleotide sequence of the gene encoding the protease and ICP35 capsid protein of herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 2 strain G has been determined. The gene consisits of a 1908 bp open reading frame capable of encoding 636 amino acids. Comparative nucleotide sequence analysis of the gene with published HSV-1 sequences revealed that the HSV-2 nucleic acid segment most likely encodes t...

Herpes simplex virus infection of the central nervous system is still a significant cause of morbidity and often mortality. Changes of central nervous system are results of primary infection or activation of latent HSV-1, HSV-2. Neurological deficits often follow encephalitis herpetica. The application of PCR is prompt and specific diagnosis of herpes simplex virus infections of the brain. Adva...

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus that is a common pathogen in humans. There are 2 subtypes, HSV-1 and HSV-2, which are distinguished by their different DNA composition. Their nucleic acids demonstrate approximately 50% base sequence homology.1 The subtypes also differ in a surface glycoprotein, gG: HSV-1 has gG1 and HSV-2 has gG2; they form the basis of type-...

background: sodium valproate, an anticonvulsant drug, is reported to stimulate human immunodeficiency virus type 1 and human cytomegalovirus replication. since epileptic patients undergoing sodium valproate therapy may suffer from various virus infections, the effect of this drug on replication of viruses especially those affecting neuronal tissues such as herpes simplex virus type 1 is worthy ...

A combinatorial library was used to select a human monoclonal antibody fragment (Fab) with high affinity for G glycoprotein in herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). Tests with 112 clinical specimens demonstrated successful discrimination between HSV-2 and HSV-1, showing the potential of Fab as a low-cost tool for HSV subtyping in clinical diagnosis.

Introduction: Herpes simplex virus infection is one of the most common human infections in most parts of the world. Infection of female genitalia, as a common involving region in body, may cause neonatal infection to vitus and lead to dangerous complications. The aim of the current research was the assessment of the seroepidemiology of herpes simplex virus (HSV) in females referring to gen...

Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) is a well-known cause of neurological complications. This case study describes the first reported reactivated HSV-2 myelitis, which was induced by immunosuppression due to sepsis. During treatment meningococcal meningitis, patient developed quadriparesis and later diagnosed as mimicking ICU-acquired weakness. The emphasizes importance excluding viral myelitis befo...
