The leg function in human running can be characterized by spring-like behaviour. The human leg itself has several segments, which influence the leg function. In this paper a simple model based on springmass-running but with with a compliant ankle joint is introduced to investigate the influence of a rigid foot segment. The predicted forcelength-curve explains changes in leg stiffness as well as...

Human running can be simulated using a simple model called the spring-loaded inverted pendulum (SLIP). The SLIP predicts some aspects of including self-stabilizing properties running. In human locomotion energy is dissipated due to passive motion soft tissue. However, little known about effects this dissipation on dynamics This study utilizes with an additional spring-mass-damper system wobblin...

the present study has tried to accomplish an analysis of margaret atwood’s novels oryx and crake, and the year of the flood in the light of posthuman and cyborg theories. considering posthumanism as a critical reading of some notions of humanism focus of which in this thesis has been identity, new definitions for humanity and human identity are formed. haraway’s cyborg, as one possible new figu...

OBJECTIVE : To investigate the slope influence on the maximal subtalar pronation in submaximal running speeds. METHODS : Sixteen endurance runners participated of a running economy (RE) test in a treadmill with different slopes (+1%, +5%, +10%, +15%). For each slope a 4-minute run was performed with no rest break for the purpose of measuring the magnitude of kinematic variables by means of a ...

Although the mechanical function is quite clear, there is no consensus regarding the metabolic benefit of arm swing during human running. We compared the metabolic cost of running using normal arm swing with the metabolic cost of running while restricting the arms in three different ways: (1) holding the hands with the arms behind the back in a relaxed position (BACK), (2) holding the arms acro...

In the inflationary scenario of loop quantum cosmology in the presence of inverse-volume corrections, we give analytic formulas for the power spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations convenient to compare with observations. Since inverse-volume corrections can provide strong contributions to the running spectral indices, inclusion of terms higher than the second-order runnings in the power sp...

We study the finely tuned SSM, recently proposed by Arkani-Hamed and Dimopoulos, at the one loop level. The runnings of the four gaugino Yukawa couplings, the µ term, the gaugino masses, and the Higgs quartic coupling are computed. The Higgs mass is found to be 130 – 170 GeV for M s > 10 6 GeV. If the Yukawa coupling constants are measured at the 1% level, this can determine the SUSY breaking s...

Rodents anticipate rewarding stimuli such as daily meals, mates, and stimulant drugs. When a single meal is provided daily at a fixed time of day, an increase in activity, known as food anticipatory activity (FAA), occurs several hours before feeding time. The factors affecting the expression of FAA have not been well-studied. Understanding these factors may provide clues to the undiscovered an...
