The integration of silver and gold nanoparticles with graphene is frequently sought for the realization of hybrid materials with superior optical, photoelectric and photocatalytic performances. A crucial aspect for these applications is how the surface plasmon resonance of metal nanoparticles is modified after assembly with graphene. Here, we used the discrete dipole approximation method to stu...

This paper reports on two methods to enable the manufacturing of hybrid nano and micrometer sized systems: (i) electrostatically directed self-assembly of nanoparticles and nanowires to form nanoparticle and nanowire based devices, and (ii) surface tension driven self-assembly of micrometer sized components to form multi-component hybrid microsystems. Both self-assembly techniques are programma...

Gold nanoparticles were synthesized using agarose as a reducing agent, which gelled to support the gold nanoparticles, then readily functioned as a template to produce a porous, evenly-distributed Au/TiO(2) nano-hybrid.

We report a pH-responsive gold nanoparticles-in-liposome hybrid nanostructure, which effectively combines the pH-responsive assembly and surface plasmon property changes of 'smart' gold nanoparticles and enhanced systemic circulation and tumor accumulation of the PEG-grafted liposomes.

Herein, we fabricated efficient MR imaging probes by incorporating gadolinium oxide nanoparticles (Gd2O3) and gadolinium hybrid nanoparticles (GH) within RBCs. The Gd2O3 and GH encapsulated in the RBCs exhibited high relaxation rates and revealed high sensitivity for T1 MR imaging.

Hybrid (organic shell-inorganic core) nanoparticles have important applications in nanomedicine. Although the inorganic components of hybrid nanoparticles can be characterized readily using conventional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques, the structural and chemical arrangement of the organic molecular components remains largely unknown. Here, we apply TEM to the physico-chemical...

Recently nanoparticles ionic networks were reported in the frame of the remarkable development of new inorganic-organic hybrid materials based on nanoparticles assembly. In this article a layer-by-layer deposition method for the formation of imidazolium-based assemblies of photocatalytic titania nanoparticles is presented. This provides a new route for the controlled processing of this promisin...

Various types of CO sensors based on cerium oxide (ceria) have been reported recently. It has also been reported that the response speed of CO sensors fabricated from porous ceria thick films comprising nanoparticles is extremely high. However, the response value of such sensors is not suitably high. In this study, we investigated methods of improving the response values of CO sensors based on ...

BACKGROUND siRNAs have a high potential for silencing critical molecular pathways that are pathogenic. Nevertheless, their clinical application has been limited by a lack of effective and safe nanotechnology-based delivery system that allows a controlled and safe transfection to cytosol of targeted cells without the associated adverse effects. Our group recently reported a very effective and sa...
