Hydraulic fracturing (HF) is a focal topic in discussions about domestic energy production, yet the American public is largely unfamiliar and undecided about the practice. This study sheds light on how individuals may come to understand hydraulic fracturing as this unconventional production technology becomes more prominent in the United States. For the study, a thorough search of HF photograph...
The shearing of natural fractures is important in the permeability enhancement of shale gas reservoirs during hydraulic fracturing treatment. In this work, the shearing mechanisms of natural fractures are analyzed using a newly proposed numerical model based on the displacement discontinuities method. The fluid-rock coupling system of the model is carefully designed to calculate the shearing of...
The rapid rise of shale gas development through horizontal drilling and high volume hydraulic fracturing has expanded the extraction of hydrocarbon resources in the U.S. The rise of shale gas development has triggered an intense public debate regarding the potential environmental and human health effects from hydraulic fracturing. This paper provides a critical review of the potential risks tha...
We report the 5,425,832 bp draft genome of Pseudomonas sp. strain BDAL1, recovered from a Bakken shale hydraulic fracturing-produced water tank metagenome. Genome annotation revealed several key biofilm formation genes and osmotic stress response mechanisms necessary for survival in hydraulic fracturing-produced water.
We report here the 1,882,100-bp draft genome sequence of Methanohalophilus mahii strain DAL1, recovered from Marcellus Shale hydraulic fracturing-produced water using metagenomic contig binning. Genome annotation revealed several key methanogenesis genes and provides valuable information on archaeal activity associated with hydraulic fracturing-produced water environments.
The stress field is a critical factor for fracture propagation in hydraulic fracturing. Attention should be paid to with the nonuniform field. A gradient was established investigate influence of nononuniform on propagation. Based three-dimensional block distinct element model law obtained. mechanism and magnitude uneven revealed. Aiming at propagation, elastic modulus construction parameters an...
Hydraulic fracturing technology is usually used to stimulate tight gas reservoirs for increasing gas production. The stimulated volume depends in part on the pre-existing natural fractures in a reservoir. The mechanisms influencing the interaction between hydraulic fractures and natural fractures have to be well understood in order to achieve a successful application of hydraulic fracturing. In...
Feasibility Study of Network Hydraulic Fracture Applied to the Fissured Competent Sand Oil Reservoir
Chang 8 oil deposit, developed in Hohe and Jihe oil fields at the southern Yi-Shan Slop of Ordos Basin, is regarded as a kind of typical sand reservoir formation with super-low porosity, poor permeability, strong anisotropy as well as locally natural faults and fractures. The previous studies believed that matrix reservoir has a good permeability, whereas fracture reservoir has a reverse manner...
The primary objective of our current research is to develop a computational test bed for evaluating borehole techniques to enhance fluid flow and heat transfer in enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). Simulating processes resulting in hydraulic fracturing and/or the remobilization of existing fractures, especially the interaction between propagating fractures and existing fractures, represents a c...
