This study was undertaken to determine the volumes delivered by the 1- and 3-mm pins of a Cathra replicator and to evaluate reproducibility. The weight of broth transferred by these pins served to assess the delivery volume. Repeated transfers with the 1- and 3-mm pins showed, on average, a delivery of 0.1 and 2 microliters, respectively.

Background: Anatomic single bundle is a widely accepted technique for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The research question: are transverse pins safe to fix the ACL graft on the femoral side in anatomic single bundle ACL reconstruction? Material and Methods: Ten cadaveric femoral dry bones were tested in this study. Thirty mm long sockets were prepared in the center of the anat...

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to compare the stiffness characteristics of Taylor Spatial Frame (TSF) fixed with transverse wires and half pins. DESIGN & METHODS Experiments were carried out at the biomechanics laboratory at Cardiff University. All mechanical testing was performed with a servo hydraulic test frame (MTS 858 Mini Bionix II(R), MTS Corp., Mineapolis, USA). Custom built mou...

Intercellular flow of the phytohormone auxin underpins multiple developmental processes in plants. Plant-specific pin-formed (PIN) proteins and several phosphoglycoprotein (PGP) transporters are crucial factors in auxin transport-related development, yet the molecular function of PINs remains unknown. Here, we show that PINs mediate auxin efflux from mammalian and yeast cells without needing ad...

We estimate the security of dictionary-based PINs (Personal Identification Numbers) that a user selects from his/her memory without any additional aids. The estimates take into account the distribution of words in source language. We use established security metrics, such as entropy, guesswork, marginal guesswork and marginal success rate. The metrics are evaluated for various scenarios – aimed...

Osteosynthesis screws and titanium or resorbable pins have been recommended for fixing guided bone regeneration (GBR) membranes and stabilizing the graft. However, the removal of fixation screws or pins often requires an additional surgical procedure. This article presents a periosteal suturing technique with resorbable sutures for the fixation of grafts and membranes in GBR in single implant s...

Modern science of networks has brought significant advances to our understanding of complex systems biology. As a representative model of systems biology, Protein Interaction Networks (PINs) are characterized by a remarkable modular structures, reflecting functional associations between their components. Many methods were proposed to capture cohesive modules so that there is a higher density of...
