BACKGROUND Previous studies have implicated the cyclic adenosine monophosphate/protein kinase A pathway as well as FosB and dynorphin-B expression mediated by dopamine D1 receptor stimulation in the development of 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-L-alanine (L-DOPA)-induced dyskinesia. The magnitude of these molecular changes correlates with the intensity of dyskinesias. The calcium-binding protein downstrea...

Present report describes a 46 year old male patient with a diagnosis of major depression who developed tardive dyskinesia during bupropion therapy. Our patient had no history of neuroleptic use and his laboratory and neurologic examinations were normal. He had no family history of neurologic diseases. Although bupropion induced dyskinesia has been previously reported in the literature, it is ra...

The aim of the present study was to evaluate effect of ellagic acid, a polyphenol bioactive compound, on reserpine-induced orofacial dyskinesia in Wistar male albino rats and to explore the possible underlying mechanisms for this effect. Reserpine (1 mg kgG1, i.p.) was administered on every alternate day for a period of 5 days (day 1, 3 and 5) to induce orofacial dyskinesia in rats. Ellagic aci...

Angiogenesis and increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier have been reported to occur in animal models of Parkinson's disease and l-dopa-induced dyskinesia, but the significance of these phenomena has remained unclear. Using a validated rat model of l-dopa-induced dyskinesia, this study demonstrates that chronic treatment with l-dopa dose dependently induces the expression of vascular ...

The focus of most previous research concerning tardive dyskinesia has been on the impact of risk factors on the development( incidence) of this syndrome. In this paper, we report our results on the relationship between risk factors and the severity of tardive dyskinesia. A total of 33 patients diagnosed as tardive dyskinesia with no other medical illness studied: 21 males and 12 females with a ...

A ntipsychotic medications were introduced in the 1950s and proved to be invaluable in the amelioration of schizophrenic symptoms. These agents gained widespread acceptance in the treatment of psychoneurologic disorders, including schizophrenia, Tourette’s syndrome, effective disorders, and dementia. Antipsychotics are also called neuroleptics because of their ability to induce a variety of neu...

We present a case in which trauma from a broken glass resulted in complete amputation of the upper lid and severe lacerations to the lower lid but with an intact and functioning globe. The avulsed upper lid was repaired as a composite autograft. The possible management of such an unusual case is discussed.
