The first geostationary Earth observation satellite of Korea – the Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) – was successfully launched on 27 June 2010. After arrival at its operational orbit, the satellite underwent an in-orbit test (IOT) that lasted for about 8 months. During the IOT period, the main payload for the weather application, the meteorological imager, went through...

A discussion of CMOS readout technologies for infrared (IR) imaging systems is presented. First, the description of various types of IR detector materials and structures is given. The advances of detector fabrication technology and microelectronics process technology have led to the development of large format array of IR imaging detectors. For such large IR FPA’s which is the critical componen...

DRS Sensors & Targeting Systems, supported by detector materials supplier Lawrence Semiconductor Research Laboratory, is developing far-infrared detectors jointly with NASA Langley under the Far-IR Detector Technology Advancement Partnership (FIDTAP). The detectors are intended for spectral characterization of the Earth’s energy budget from space. During the first year of this effort we have de...

A molecular beam epitaxy grown wavelength tunable GaAs p-i homojunction interfacial work-function internal photoemission far-infrared detector is developed. The multilayer (p-ip-i. . . ! detector structures consist of 2, 5, and 10 emitter layers. Experimental results are explained in terms of the number of emitter layers and the doping concentrations of the emitter layer. A detector with 10 mul...

this article is a report of calculation and measurements of a p+-n insb photo-diode leakage current fabricated by mesa on the basis of the calculation and measurement of different leakage currents in insb photo-diode along with its variation it shows that at relatively low reverse biases (up to about 300 mv) g-r and shunt current are dominant. but at high reverse biases the tunneling current do...

The development of sensitive large format imaging arrays for the infrared promises to provide revolutionary capabilities for space astronomy. For example, the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) on SIRTF will use four 256× 256 arrays to provide background limited high spatial resolution images of the sky in the 3 to 8 μm spectral region. In order to reach the performance limits possible with this gene...

The paper reports on photoelectrical performance of the mid-wave infrared (MWIR) (111) HgCdTe high operating temperature (HOT) detector for the fast response conditions. Detector structure was simulated with software APSYS by Crosslight Inc. The detailed analysis of the time response as a function of device architecture and applied bias is performed pointing out optimal working conditions.
