a Recent discussion of the possibility to study intermittency in individual events of high multiplicity by A. Bialas and myself is reported. In the framework of α−model it is found that, for a cascade long enough, the dispersion of intermittency exponents obtained from individual events is fairly small. This fact opens the possibility to study the distribution of the intermittency parameters ch...

We discuss the spatiotemporal intermittency (STI) seen in coupled map lattices (CML-s). We identify the types of intermittency seen in such systems in the context of several specific CML-s. The Chaté-Manneville CML is introduced and the on-going debate on the connection of the spatiotemporal intermittency seen in this model with the problem of directed percolation is summarised. We also discuss...

Intermittency in fluid turbulence can be evidentiated through the analysis of Probability Distribution Functions (PDF) for velocity fluctuations, which display a strong non–gaussian behavior at small scales. In this paper we investigate the occurrence of intermittency in plasma turbulence by studying the departure from the gaussian distribution of PDF for both velocity and magnetic fluctuations...

After finding analogies between turbulence and the beable interpretation of the spontaneous collapse model of the wave function, we unravel the underlying Lévy dynamics in such model. Using an affine noise in the collapse process, we obtain the intermittency corrections to Richardson’s t law for the turbulent diffusion. PACS: 05.40.Fb, 03.65.Bz, 02.50.Ey Typeset using REVTEX

Cloud base height profiles measured with laser ceilometer are studied using multifractal approach. The irregular structure of the signals is a benchmark for nonlinear dynamical processes. A hierarchy of generalized dimensions determines the intermittency of the signal. The multi-affine properties are described by the h(γ) function.

This article presents a novel cost function for estimating the parameters of the Gaussian plume model using simulated annealing. The novel cost function takes into account the meandering and intermittency phenomena found on dispersing plumes. The proposed method was validated using real gas sensor data sampled by a swarm of 5 robots performing the Decentralized Asynchronous Particle Swarm Optim...

Using standard signal processing tools, we experimentally report that intermittency of wave turbulence on the surface of a fluid occurs even when two typical large-scale coherent structures (gravity wave breakings and bursts of capillary waves on steep gravity waves) are not taken into account. We also show that intermittency depends on the power injected into the waves. The dependence of the p...

Eight roughness configurations in Clemson boundary layer wind tunnel are presented. For these configurations, flow parameters such as turbulent intensities, integral length scales, largeand smallscale turbulence, and spectra of velocity components of the wind are obtained and studied to the simulated turbulence. At the same time, new analyzing tools, orthogonal wavelet techniques, are applied t...

We study the effects of noise on a recently discovered form of intermittency, referred to as in-out intermittency. This type of intermittency, which reduces to on-off in systems with a skew product structure, has been found in the dynamics of maps, (ODE) and (PDE) simulations that have symmetries. It shows itself in the form of trajectories that spend a long time near a symmetric state interspe...

[1] We perform intermittency analyses on the electric field data obtained by the SIERRA sounding rocket in the auroral zone. The electric field fluctuations are broadband, covering the extremely low-frequency range with a power-law relation, similar to the type of fluctuations commonly observed at various altitudes of the auroral region. Our preliminary analyses of the data based on the techniq...
