We report a case of fluoroscopy-guided intraarticular steroid injection for sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) arthritis caused by limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (SSc). A 50-year-old woman diagnosed with limited cutaneous SSc presented with swelling and pain in the right SCJ. MRI revealed signs of inflammation consistent with right-sided sternoclavicular joint arthritis. After the failure of or...

A 52-year-old man with no significant medical history presented to the emergency department (ED) after a mechanical fall onto his nondominant left hand. Physical examination was suggestive of a glenohumeral dislocation, and radiographs confirmed a subcoracoid anterior glenohumeral dislocation (Figure 1). The patient was neurovascularly intact, but complained of severe pain and refused initial a...

A case of septic arthritis of the knee caused by Pseudomonas cepacia following an intraarticular corticosteroid injection in a patient with a history of osteoarthritis is presented. This is the second report of this agent causing infection in a diarthrodial joint, which proved difficult to eradicate despite in vitro antibiotic sensitivity.

Thirteen children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) were treated with intraarticular steroid injection of triamcilone acetonide as a day care procedure. More than half (53.4%) the children were free of pain, limp and NSAID's use, with improvement in functional score at 12 weeks. No side effects were reported during the period of the study.

BACKGROUND: Radiosynovectomy is a type of radiotherapy used to relieve pain and inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis. In this study, 188-Rhenium (188Re) colloids were characterized by physical and biological methodologies. This was used to assess which parameters of the kit formulation would be the basis in the development of a more effective radiopharmaceutical for synovectomy. Intraarticula...

433 R arthrography is the preferred imaging technique for the investigation of patients with shoulder instability [1, 2]. MR arthrography reliably shows subtle lesions of the labroligamentous complex, providing information essential to the surgeon concerning the surgery or arthroscopic repair. Most patients presenting with shoulder instability have anterior instability; in these cases, evaluati...

INTRODUCTION Intraarticular administration of autologous conditioned serum (ACS) recently demonstrated some clinical effectiveness in treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). The current study aims to evaluate the in vitro effects of ACS on cartilage proteoglycan (PG) metabolism, its composition and the effects on synovial fluid (SF) cytokine levels following intraarticular ACS administration. METHO...

Introduction Intra-articular corticosteroid injections (iacis) are widely used in the management of children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Although this therapeutic intervention is generally considered for the treatment of children with arthritis in a small number of joints, the strategy of injecting simultaneously multiple joints has been advocated in children with polyarthritis. H...

OBJECTIVE Acute articular injuries lead to an increased risk of progressive joint damage and osteoarthritis (OA), and no therapies are currently available to repair or protect the injured joint tissue. Intraarticular delivery of therapeutic proteins has been limited by their rapid clearance from the joint space and lack of retention within cartilage. The aim of this study was to test whether ta...
