We describe a stochastic optimization method that can be used to solve inverse problems in epidemic modelling. Although in general it cannot be expected that these inverse problems have solutions and that possible solutions can be approximated by local optimization methods, our optimization method worked well when applied to a model for the epidemics caused by Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) ...

the solubility enhancement of poorly soluble compounds is an important task in pharmaceutical technology as it leads to better bioavailability and a more efficient application. fused dispersions (fds) of simvastatin (sim) using peo-ppo block copolymer were prepared which paved the way for the formation of an amorphous product with enhanced dissolution and bioavailability. the accumulative solub...

Inverse Transient Analysis (ITA) is a powerful approach for leak detection of pipelines. When the pipe transient flow is analyzed in frequency domain the ITA is called Inverse Frequency Response Analysis (IFRA). To implement an IFRA for leak detection, a transient state is initiated in the pipe by fast closure of the downstream end valve. Then, the pressure time history at the valve location is...

Inverse optimization perturbs objective function to make an initial feasible solution optimal with respect to perturbed objective function while minimizing cost of perturbation. We extend inverse optimization to two-stage stochastic linear programs. Since the resulting model grows with number of scenarios, we present two decomposition approaches for solving these problems.

The main purpose of this paper is to solve an inverse random differential equation problem using evolutionary algorithms. Particle Swarm Algorithm and Genetic Algorithm are two algorithms that are used in this paper. In this paper, we solve the inverse problem by solving the inverse random differential equation using Crank-Nicholson's method. Then, using the particle swarm optimization algorith...

Abstract: This study deals with modeling of heat flux at the external surface of combustion chamber wall in an internal combustion (IC) engine as a function of crank angle. This investigation results in an inverse heat conduction problem in the cylinder wall. Alifanov regularization method is used for solving this inverse problem. This problem study as an optimization problem in which a square...

This study presents an optimization problem for shape design of a 2-D radiant enclosure with transparent medium and gray-diffuse surfaces. The aim of the design problem is to find the optimum geometry of a radiant enclosure from the knowledge of temperature and heat flux over some parts of boundary surface, namely the design surface. The solution of radiative heat transfer is based on the net r...

Particle swarm optimization is a heuristic global optimization method and also an optimization algorithm, which is based on swarm intelligence. It comes from the research on the bird and fish flock movement behavior. In this paper we introduce and use this method in gravity inverse problem. We discuss the solution for the inverse problem of determining the shape of a fault whose gravity anomaly...

Transmitter and receiver filter design plays a key role in communication systems with partial response channels. For a partial response system, a nonmaximally decimated multirate filter bank can be used as a precoder. Based on MMSE criterion, a closed-form solution to the joint transmitter-receiver optimization problem for noisy partial response channels is presented in this paper. It is found ...

In this paper we consider optimal design problems that involve shape optimization. The goal is to determine the shape of a certain structure such that it is either as rigid or as soft as possible. To achieve this goal we combine two new ideas for an efficient solution of the problem. First, we replace the eigenvalue problem with an approximation by using the inverse iteration. Second, we use a ...
