BACKGROUND Patients with mucoepidermoid carcinoma exhibit poor long-term prognosis because of the lack of therapeutic strategies that effectively block tumor progression. We have previously characterized the Ms cells as a highly metastatic mucoepidermoid carcinoma cell line that expresses high levels of transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1). Here, we studied the effect of suppressing TGF-β1 by...

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the lung is a rare malignancy of salivary gland-type origin. We report a case of a 21-year-old man with a right mainstem bronchus mass composed predominantly of clear cells. This case represents a rare primary pulmonary low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma positive for MAML2 rearrangement by fluorescence in situ hybridization with a prominent clear cell component.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a malignant epithelial tumour of glandular tissue, usually of the major salivary glands. However it can present in the minor salivary glands, especially in the soft palate. We report the case of a 72-year-old Malay female after presentation with sore throat, fever and odynophagia, was diagnosed with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the soft palate.

following the first report of laryngeal small cell carcinoma in canada in 1972,only 82 cases of this cancer has been reported in the literature untill 2001.this cancer originates from laryngeal neuroendocrine cells. It,s clinical presentation consists of hoarseness, breathing difficulty:and cigarette smoking is the most important risk factor.this type of cancer is mostly presented after 50 years ...

A 50-yr-old male presented a thyroid mass with dysphasia and hoarseness. He underwent total thyroidectomy and neck node dissection. Pathologically, the tumor had two distinct tumor components with intermingled areas: follicular variant of papillary carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma composed of columnar cells, mucocytes, and squamoid cells showing solid and cystic ...

The 22 adenosquamous carcinoma cases were studied clinicopathologically. The tumor provides many difficulties such as: rapid spreading properties, delayed detection as advanced carcinoma because of the presence of endophytic growth, frequent prevalence of vessel permeation, and radioresistance. Adenosquamous carcinoma was categorized histochemically and histomorphologically into two types--aden...

CONTEXT Among the cytological and morphological properties of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, one of the most important criteria for measuring its biological behavior and aggressiveness is cell proliferation. In this way, immunohistochemical markers of cell proliferation have been found to be useful in tumor classification and have formed part of the prognostic and therapeutic studies of these pathol...

Background & Objective: Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is considered to be one of the most common cancers of the head and neck, accounting for roughly 90% of all malignant tumors of the larynx. To have a timely diagnosis for a better and practical therapy, molecular markers have to be investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the expression of Cyclin D1 (CD...

This paper reports a well-differentiated mucoepidermoid carcinoma containing numerous melanocytes in the parenchyma in a middle-aged Japanese man. In addition to the characteristic histopathologic features of well-differentiated mucoepidermoid carcinoma, various-formed and -sized, pigmented cells were widely distributed in the parenchyma. Many of these were considered to be melanocytes containi...

Primary intra-osseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma arising from jaw is an extremely rare condition accounting to less than 2% of all mucoepidermoid carcinomas. In the jaw, it occurs more commonly in mandible than maxilla. They are low-grade cancers and affect jaw as uni- or multi-locular radiographic lesions. Here we discuss a rare case of giant cystic primary intra-cystic mucoepidermoid carcinoma ...
