Anaphylactic shock due to unruptured hydatid cyst is a rare complication of hepatic echinococcosis. Here, we present an unusual case of unruptured hydatid cyst causing anaphylactic shock followed by appendicitis, ileus, and complicated by septic condition due to multiple intrahospital infections. Decision of the surgical cyst removal at the right moment and appropriate antimicrobial treatment a...

Huge unruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysms is rarely observed. We report a 32-year-old woman presenting with exertional dyspnea in which a giant unruptured noncoronary sinus of Valsalva aneurysm was detected after echocardiography. The aneurysm was surgically repaired and the aortic and mitral valves were replaced.

Recent progress in digital subtraction angiography (DSA) devices makes it possible to perform rotational angiography with high resolution and high sensitivity. We tried intravenous (IV) 3D DSA in patients who had undergone MR angiography (MRA) suggestive of unruptured intracranial aneurysms. IV 3D DSA can be used as an alternative method for imaging unruptured intracranial aneurysms suggested o...

Unruptured aneurysm of sinus of Valsalva (ASV) is a rare congenital anomaly. We describe a case of multiple unruptured ASV involving right and left aortic sinuses causing congestive cardiac failure in a 16-year-old boy who underwent successful surgical repair.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Despite experience and technological improvements, endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms still has inherent risks. We evaluated cerebral complications associated with this treatment. METHODS From October 1998 to October 2002, 180 consecutive patients underwent 131 procedures for 118 ruptured aneurysms and 79 procedures for 72 unruptured aneurysms. We retrospe...

BACKGROUND The management of unruptured intracranial aneurysms requires knowledge of the natural history of these lesions and the risks of repairing them. METHODS A total of 2621 patients at 53 participating centers in the United States, Canada, and Europe were enrolled in the study, which had retrospective and prospective components. In the retrospective component, we assessed the natural hi...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Intracranial aneurysms are common, with an overall frequency ranging from 0.8% to 10%. Because prognosis after subarachnoid hemorrhage is still very poor, treatment of unruptured aneurysms, either neurosurgically or endovascularly, has been advocated. However, risk of rupture and subsequent subarachnoid hemorrhage needs to be considered against the risks of elective treat...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE With advances in neuroimaging, unruptured cerebral aneurysms are being diagnosed more frequently. Until 1995, surgical clipping of the aneurysm was the only treatment available. Since then, a less invasive endovascular technique has been found effective in a trial of ruptured aneurysms. No efficacy studies comparing the 2 procedures for unruptured aneurysms exist to guide...

Background Deciding how to manage an unruptured intracranial aneurysm can be difficult for patients and physicians due to controversies about management. The decision as to when and how to intervene may be variable depending on physicians' interpretation of available data regarding natural history and morbidity and mortality of interventions. Another significant factor in the decision process i...

The objective was to determine differences in follicle and reproductive hormone characteristics in mares with ovulatory and flunixin meglumine (FM)-induced anovulatory cycles. Estrous mares were given 1500 IU hCG when the follicle was ≥ 32 mm (0 h). In Experiment 1, control mares (n = 7) were not treated further. The remaining mares (n = 11) were given 1.7 mg/kg FM i.v. twice daily, from 0 to 3...
