Background—Exercise performed at higher relative intensities has been found to elicit a greater increase in aerobic capacity and greater cardioprotective effects than exercise at moderate intensities. An inverse association has also been detected between the relative intensity of physical activity and the risk of developing coronary heart disease, independent of the total volume of physical act...

This study determined whether performing a single moderate- or vigorous-intensity exercise bout impacts daily physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE, by accelerometer). Overweight/obese postmenopausal women underwent a 5-month caloric restriction and moderate- (n = 18) or vigorous-intensity (n = 18) center-based aerobic exercise intervention. During the last month of intervention, in women ...

Introduction: Appetite affected energy homeostasis, it play an important role in control and regulation of energy balance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of moderate intensity exercise training on appetite, acylated ghrelin and leptin levels in obese and untrained women. Methods: The research method was semi-experimental. The sample group was made of 25 subjects random...

Group exercise training programs were introduced as a strategy for improving health and fitness and potentially reducing dropout rates. This study examined the psychophysiological responses to group exercise training sessions. Twenty-seven adults completed two group exercise training sessions of moderate and vigorous exercise intensities in a random and counterbalanced order. The %HRR and the e...

In North America and most Western European countries, testicular cancer is often cited as the most common cancer among young and middle-aged men, and yet few studies have examined the relation between modifiable factors and testicular cancer risk. Data collected between 1995 and 1996 in Ontario, Canada, as part of the Enhanced Cancer Surveillance Study were used to examine the relation between ...

Introduction Exercise hyperpnoea is considered to be one of the major remaining challenges to understanding the control of human systemic function. The topic is currently in an exciting phase, both with respect to novel perspectives on its control and the application of novel techniques to investigate previously proposed mechanisms. However, despite this, the integrative aspects of the control ...

Active colloids exhibit persistent motion, which can lead to motility-induced phase separation (MIPS). However, there currently exists no microscopic theory to account for this phenomenon. We report a first-principles theory, free of fit parameters, for active spherical colloids, which shows explicitly how an effective many-body interaction potential is generated by activity and how this can ra...

A simple strategy for the synthesis of the hitherto unreported 3-arylazo-4-phenyl-[1,2,4]triazepino[2,3-H]quinazoline-2,7(1H)-diones is described. Spectral data indicated that the studied compounds exist predominantly in the hydrazone tautomeric form. The antimicrobial activity of the newly synthesized compounds was also evaluated. The results indicated that some of these compounds have moderat...

We examine the mobility and velocity fluctuations of a driven particle moving through an active matter bath of self-mobile disks for varied density or area coverage and varied activity. We show that the driven particle mobility can exhibit nonmonotonic behavior that is correlated with distinct changes in the spatiotemporal structures that arise in the active media. We demonstrate that the probe...

We hypothesized that high-intensity aerobic interval training results in a greater beneficial adaptation of the heart compared with that observed after low-to-moderate exercise intensity. This is supported by recent epidemiological, experimental, and clinical studies. Cellular and molecular mechanisms of myocardial adaptation to exercise training are discussed in this review.
