Cytotoxic chemotherapies often give rise to multidrug resistance, which remains a major problem in cancer management. In pursuit of alternative treatments for chemoresistant tumor cells, we tested the response of multidrug-resistant (MDR) tumor cell lines to the aromatic fatty acids phenylacetate (PA) and phenylbutyrate (PB), two differentiation inducers currently in clinical trials. Both compo...

Objectives We set out to investigate the prevalence, different mechanisms, and clonal relatedness of multidrug resistance (MDR) among third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Gram-negative clinical isolates from Egypt. Materials and methods A total of 118 third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Gram-negative clinical isolates were included in this study. Their antimicrobial susceptibility pa...

Peng et al.[1] reported that the MDR‐TB burden among the new tuberculosis (TB) patients accounted for more than 1/4th of all multidrug‐resistant TB (MDR‐TB) cases in the past 5 years in Zhejiang province, although the identified rate of MDR‐TB among 9830 new TB cases was only 2.0%. Drug‐resistant TB, especially MDR‐TB, is a major threat to the control of TB worldwide. However, due to high cost ...

Background: Atypical enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (aEPEC) is regarded as a globally emerging enteropathogen. aEPECs exhibit various level of resistance to a range of antibiotics, which is increasing alarmingly. The present study investigated the antimicrobial resistance of aEPEC isolates recovered from diarrheal patients, healthy carriers, animals, and raw meats. Results: Among 267 aEPEC i...

BACKGROUND Treatment of chronic sinusitis is complicated due to increase of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The aim of this study was to determine the multidrug resistance (MDR) pattern of the bacteria causing chronic sinusitis in north of Iran. METHODS This cross-sectional study was carried out on patients with chronic sinusitis. Bacterial susceptibility to antimicrobial agents was determined...

Since 2013, wounded and ill children from Syria have received treatment in Israel. Screening cultures indicated that multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens colonized 89 (83%) of 107 children. For 58% of MDR infections, the pathogen was similar to that identified during screening. MDR screening of these children is valuable for purposes of isolation and treatment.

Drug resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) has been reported since the early days of introduction of antitubercular chemotherapy, but recently multi drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), has been an area of growing concern, and is posing threat to global efforts of tuberculosis control. Prevalence of MDR-TB, in a community mirrors the functional state and efficacy of tuberculosis control programme and...

To estimate prevalence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) in Harare, Zimbabwe, in 2012, we performed microbiologic testing on acid-fast bacilli smear-positive sputum samples from patients previously treated for TB. Twenty (24%) of 84 specimens were consistent with MDR TB. A national drug-resistance survey is needed to determine MDR TB prevalence in Zimbabwe.
