Non-Axiomatic Logic (NAL) is designed for intelligent reasoning, and can be used in a system that has insufficient knowledge and resources with respect to the problems to be solved. This paper reports the result of a case study that applies NAL in medical diagnostics, and the logic is compared with binary logic and probability theory.

Cloud computing providers today do not offer guarantees for the network bandwidth available in the cloud, preventing tenants from running their applications predictably. To provide guarantees, several recent research proposals offer tenants a virtual cluster abstraction, emulating physical networks. Whereas offering dedicated virtual network abstractions is a significant step in the right direc...

H osted cloud computing has signif icantly lowered the barrier for creating new networked services. Likewise, experimental facilities such as the Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI; www. geni.net) let researchers perform largescale experiments on a “slice” of shared infrastructure. By letting tenants share physical resources, virtualization is a key technology in these infrastruct...

A single distributed application typically requires setting up a number of real-time connections, or channels. Current schemes usually assume that different channels are independent, when in reality, important relationships often exist between them. We introduce a new abstraction called channel groups that allows network clients to describe these relationships explicitly to the network service ...

Users will be able to access ubiquitously present appliances anywhere and anytime through home network. For this, we need middleware that provides a highlevel abstraction, self-configuration, and guarantees the interoperability among middleware. However, most home network middleware does not ensure interoperability with different middleware. This paper presents the UHNM architecture, which guar...

An abstraction network is a compact network summarizing the structure and content of a given ontology. Abstraction networks have been shown to support orientation into and quality assurance of ontologies. Area and partial-area taxonomies are examples of abstraction networks that utilize the relationships of an ontology to group together classes with similar structure and semantics. These taxono...

Rule abstraction is a powerful tool for modeling abstract behaviors in swarm systems. The research presented in this paper examines the application of rule abstraction to the wireless sensor network domain. I specifically analyze the potential of rule abstraction to accurately model and control the connectivity, coverage, and density of a simple sensor network. In this paper, I also present a s...

ion: a. first abstraction level: a semantic network is used to extract a set of concepts from every token; eventually, a list of concepts is obtained; b. second abstraction level: the concepts are grouped in homogeneous sets (domains).
