This paper analyses the accuracy and numerical stability of coupling procedures in aeroelastic modelling. A two-dimensional model problem assuming unsteady inviscid ow past an oscillating wall leads to an even simpler one-dimensional model problem. Analysis of different numerical algorithms shows that in general the coupling procedures are numerically stable, but care is required to achieve acc...

In this paper, the numerical stability of a partial differential equation with piecewise constant arguments is considered. Firstly, the θ -methods are applied to approximate the original equation. Secondly, the numerical asymptotic stability conditions are given when the mesh ratio and the corresponding parameter satisfy certain conditions. Thirdly, the conditions under which the numerical stab...

In this technical note, we develop a numerically reliable method to design an interactor for a general descriptor system relative to a stability region and an offending zero set . Our main result is based on a condensed form. This condensed form is independent of the offending zeros , and is computed using only orthogonal transformations and hence is numerically backward stable.

This document derives estimators of frequency and probability for the elimination of numerical instability when processing small samples. The analysis uses the quantitative methodology motivated in previous documents [6, 7]. In particular we show that the expectation of the mean of a Poisson sample is n + 1/2, and for a Binomial sample is (n + 1/2)/(N + 1). We argue that this is a better estima...

A new risk analysis system for estimating the risk factors in tunneling is suggested in consideration of the complex effect in tunnel construction. It is verified that various risk factors can be expressed by stability and environment index using numerical and statistical analysis. Stability index includes the factors of safety of ground condition, the amount of ground settlement, condition of ...

In this paper, we study the qualitative behaviour of approximation schemes for Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDEs) by introducing a new notion of numerical stability. For the Euler scheme, we provide sufficient conditions in the one-dimensional and multidimensional case to guarantee the numerical stability. We then perform a classical Von Neumann stability analysis in the case of...

Correctness in the presence of error (e.g., when floating point computations are performed) takes on a different meaning. For many problems for which computers are used, there is one correct answer and we expect that answer to be computed by our program. The problem is that most real numbers cannot be stored exactly in a computer memory. They are stored as approximations, floating point numbers...

In the limit of small activator diffusivity ε, the stability of symmetric k-spike equilibrium solutions to the Gierer-Meinhardt reaction-diffusion system in a one-dimensional spatial domain is studied for various ranges of the reaction-time constant τ ≥ 0 and the diffusivity D > 0 of the inhibitor field dynamics. A nonlocal eigenvalue problem is derived that determines the stability on an O(1) ...

The numerical methods on stochastic differential equations (SDEs) have been well established. There are several papers that study the numerical stability of SDEs with respect to sample paths or moments. In this paper we study the stability in distribution of numerical solution of SDEs.

efficiency of numerical methods is an important problem in dynamic nonlinear analyses. it is possible to use of numerical methods such as beta-newmark in order to investigate the structural response behavior of the dynamic systems under random sea wave loads but because of necessity to analysis the offshore systems for extensive time to fatigue study it is important to use of simple stable meth...
