UNLABELLED INTRODUCTION Male urethral diverticula are rare. Patients with paraplegia may present with acquired diverticula as a result of prolonged catheterization. Diverticula may be asymptomatic or lead to lower urinary tract symptoms. Rarely, the diverticulum may initially present as a scrotal mass. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a male 45-year-old Arab with paraplegia who pres...
Rectal diverticulum is a rare condition in dogs characterized by formation of a pouch or sac due to hernial protrusion of the mucous membranes through a defect in the muscular coat of the rectum. A 12-year-old male terrier dog was admitted with a history of a left perineal swelling, dyschezia and tenesmus during the last five months. Digital rectal examination identified a weakness in the left ...
Purpose. Although most urethral diverticula in women are benign, there is a subset of patients who develop malignant changes. Limited studies report the pathologic findings associated with this relatively rare entity. We describe the clinicopathologic findings of women who underwent urethral diverticulectomy. Methods. A consecutive series of 29 women who underwent surgical resection of a urethr...
BACKGROUND Bladder diverticulum may be congenital and acquired. Iatrogenic bladder diverticulum is classified in a special group. Indications for surgery are: persistant or recurrent urinary infection, the presence of a stone in a diverticulum, development of tumor in a diverticulum cavity, the lower urinary tract symptoms and voiding symptoms and vesicoureteral reflux due to diverticulum or ur...
Gallstone ileus due to erosion of one or more gallstones into the gastrointestinal tract is an uncommon cause of small bowel obstruction. The site of impaction is usually distal ileum, and less commonly the jejunum, colon, duodenum, or stomach. We report a rare case of gallstone ileus with impaction at the proximal small bowel and at a Meckel's diverticulum (MD) in a 64-year-old woman managed w...
Objective: Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of gastrointestinal tract and usually identified incidentally during surgery for other reasons, upon radiological workup while investigating another disease or autopsy. Among certain major symptoms include bleeding, volvulus, diverticulitis, intussusception, Littre's hernia stool discharge from umbilicus. In this study, we e...
Complex, proximal, anteriorly located urethral diverticula present the reconstructive urologist with a uniquely challenging task for repair through a conventional transvaginal approach. Herein, we present the first report of urethral diverticulectomy to excise a large, anterior, horseshoe-shaped urethral diverticulum that resulted in bladder outlet obstruction, using a transabdominal robot-assi...
Zenker diverticulum (ZD) is an uncommon pharyngo-esophageal outpouching that occurs in an area of muscular weakness at the junction of the inferior aspect of the inferior constrictor muscle and the cricophayngeus muscle (Killian dehiscence). As the diverticlulum enlarges it produces progressive dysphagia, regurgitation, and aspiration. The classic approach has been to do an open diverticulectom...
A 12-year-old girl with abdominal pain and fever underwent urgent surgery. As was suspected on computed tomographic scan, a large diverticular mass adherent to the cecum was identified. A diverticulectomy was performed. We report this rare case of a giant cecal diverticulum and provide an overview of known literature.
