Human milk is the most favorable nutrition for infants. Unfortunately, human breast milk also contains traces of persistent organochlorines (OC). This leads to exposure throughout the breastfeeding period. The levels of OC in milk depend on many factors such as mothers age, number of deliveries and lactation periods, place of residence, changes in the mother's weight during lactation or nutrition.

Whether environmental contaminants increase breast cancer risk among women on Long Island, NY, is unknown. The study objective is to determine whether breast cancer risk is increased in relation to organochlorines, compounds with known estrogenic characteristics that were extensively used on Long Island and other areas of the United States. Recent reports do not support a strong association, al...

In low-income countries, the use of some organochlorine pesticides is still common in order to increase food production. Monitoring the chemical exposure is an important step in risk-reducing strategies. This is the first study to report concentrations of organochlorines in breast milk of women from Bangladesh where farming is the main income source. Organochlorines such as p,p'-DDT, o,p'-DDT, ...

BACKGROUND Maternal exposures to organochlorines prior to pregnancy are considered a risk to neonatal welfare, specifically in relation to neurocognitive functions. There is growing interest in the evaluation of maternal blood testing as a marker for fetal exposure as well as the variable geographic distribution of these priority chemicals. METHODS Three hundred and twenty-three women in the ...

Metabolomic studies generate large amounts of data, whose complexity increases if they are derived from in vivo experiments. As a result, analysis methods highly used metabolomics, such as Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA), can have particular difficulties with this type data. However, there is evidence that indicates Support Vector Machines (SVMs) better deal complex On the ...
