In this paper, we deal with freshmen performance prediction. We analyze data from courses offered to students at Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University. We supposed that the success rate of our predictions increases when we omit freshmen from our experiments as we have no study-related data about them. However, we disproved this hypothesis because there was generally no significant differen...

Understanding how performances vary across a large number of variants of a configurable software system is important for helping stakeholders to choose a desirable variant. Given a software system with n optional features, measuring all its 2 possible configurations to determine their performances is usually infeasible. Thus, various techniques have been proposed to predict software performance...

We propose a novel approach to performance prediction of OWL reasoners that selects suitable, small ontology subsets, and then extrapolates to the whole ontology. Our second contribution concerns ontology features: we report their high intercorrelation using PCA: the ontologies basically differ in one or two features.

This work builds on an existing performance modeling framework that has been proven effective on a variety of HPC systems. This paper will illustrate the framework’s power by creating blind predictions for three systems as well as establishing sensitivity studies to advance understanding of observed and anticipated performance of both architecture and application. The predictions are termed bli...

The performance prediction and task sequencing in traditional adaptive intelligent tutoring systems needs information gained from expert and domain knowledge. In a former work a new efficient task sequencer based on a performance prediction system was presented, which only needs former performance information but not the expensive expert and domain knowledge. In this paper we aim to support thi...

We present a case study in the use of performance modeling for parallel application development, with a biological cell simulation as our target application. We show that a simple performance model is adequate for determining data layout for arrays and linked structures, and validate our model against experimental results for some application kernels. We quantify the importance of optimizing ac...

Expressive performance modeling requires different information for each expressive dimension. Most systems, however, rely on a single approach for all dimensions. Further, tempo and timing are mostly treated as one atomic entity instead of being decomposed into elements and treated separately. We propose a performance model that discriminates expressive dimensions with regard to the modeling ap...

Performance prediction asks how much time executing an application is likely to take on a particular machine. Machine ranking asks which of a set of machines is likely to execute an application most quickly. These two questions are discussed within the context of large parallel applications run on supercomputers. Different techniques are surveyed, including a framework for a general approach th...

A new theoretical/empirical model has been developed for performance prediction of hard rock TBMs. The model uses information on the rock properties and cutting geometry to calculate TBM rate of penetration. The model can also be used for TBM butterhead design optimization to achieve maximum performance in a given geology.
