The reporting of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the NSW Admitted Patient Data Collection was ascertained using a stratified purposive sample of NSW public hospital patients in 2010. Information was collected by interviewing patients and compared with patient information obtained on admission. The study used the methods used in the national survey by the AIHW in 2007 and the st...
The effective population size over time (demographic history) can be retraced from a sample of contemporary DNA sequences. In this paper, we propose a novel methodology based on importance sampling (IS) for exploring such demographic histories. Our starting point is the generalized skyline plot with the main difference being that our procedure, skywis plot, uses a large number of genealogies. T...
BACKGROUND The authors piloted an HIV testing and counseling (HTC) approach using respondent-driven sampling (RDS), financial incentives, and persons living with HIV infection (PLHIV). METHODS Eligible participants were aged 30-60 years, African American or black, and residents of Oakland, CA. Participants were tested for HIV infection and asked to refer up to 3 others. The authors compared t...
In the present paper we propose an improved class of estimators in the presence of measurement error and non-response under stratified random sampling for estimating the finite population mean. The theoretical and numerical studies reveal that the proposed class of estimators performs better than other existing estimators.
Randomized response is a research method to get accurate answers to sensitive questions in structured sample survey. Simple random sampling is widely used in surveys of sensitive questions but hard to apply on large targeted populations. On the other side, more sophisticated sampling regimes and corresponding formulas are seldom employed to sensitive question surveys. In this work, we developed...
The aetiology of ophthalmoplegia in 15 patients with carotid-cavernous sinus fistula is discussed, and the clinical findings are correlated with angiographic and orbital CT appearances. After closure of the fistula the majority of patients with generalised ophthalmoplegia recovered full ocular movements rapidly, while patients with an isolated abduction weakness required much longer to return t...
