Plunging ranulas, also known as deep, diving, cervical or deep plunging ranula, usually appear in conjunction with oral ranula. Rarely, these ranulas may arise independent of oral swelling. A rare case of plunging ranula without oral swelling is discussed along with review of literature.

We present two-dimensional and three-dimensional (3-D) direct numerical simulations of large-amplitude plunging maneuvers at Reynolds numbers 5000, with velocity ratios , 1, 2. For all cases, the evolution force coefficients is qualitatively similar. The lift coefficient presents a pronounced peak toward end acceleration phase maneuver, local minimum in deceleration phase, second maneuver. ampl...

This paper investigates, for the first time, effects of compounding transient airfoil motions and predictive capability linear superposition principle in vortex dominated flows. Significant increases peak lift nose-down pitching moment were observed during second two plunging at a poststall angle attack. The load response motion was estimated through with surprising level accuracy. Flowfield me...

Aerodynamic design optimization of an airfoil for the Mars exploration airplane has been demonstrated by using an evolutionary algorithm. The adaptive range genetic algorithm is used for efficient and robust design optimization. Two-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver is used for accurate aerodynamic performance evaluation. The present computation is parallelized on the SX-6 vector computers in In...

An experimental study was conducted to investigate static stall hysteresis of a NASA GA(W)-1 airfoil at the chord Reynolds number of Re = 162,000. In addition to mapping the surface pressure distribution around the airfoil, a digital PIV system was used to make detailed flowfield measurements to quantify the occurrence and behavior of laminar boundary layer separation and transition on the airf...

At a plunging jet, air entrainment may take place downstream of the impingement perimeter. This study investigates air entrainment and bubble dispersion at vertical circular plunging jets in freshwater, salty freshwater and seawater. The results show lesser air entrainment in seawater plunging jets for identical inflow conditions. The average pseudo-chord sizes are between 4 and 6 mm for all wa...

ABSTRACT In this study, the effect of cutting the end of a thick airfoil and adding a cavity on its flow pattern is studied experimentally using PIV technique. First, by cutting 30% chord length of the Riso airfoil, a thick blunt trialing-edge airfoil is generated. The velocity field around the original airfoil and the new airfoil is measured by PIV technique and compared with each other. Then,...

Entropic lattice Boltzmann methods have been developed to alleviate intrinsic stability issues of lattice Boltzmann models for under-resolved simulations. Its reliability in combination with moving objects was established for various laminar benchmark flows in two dimensions in our previous work Dorschner et al. [11] as well as for three dimensional one-way coupled simulations of engine-type ge...

An optimum airfoil design for future Mars airplane for Mars exploration is obtained by evolutionary computation coupled with a two-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solver. The optimized airfoil design is also compared with other airfoil designs optimized at different Reynolds number or at different Mach number to discuss Reynolds number and Mach number effects on airfoil design. Thes...
